We will like to convey a message, reproduced below, received this morning ( 1 December 2006 ) via our friend from one of HH the Dalai Lama's personal Secretaries, "Chheme-la" --
In-line with His Holiness the Dalai Lama's clear and consistent stand with regard to worship of the evil spirit, dolgyal-shugden, the relevant department and officers from His Holiness's Private Office have expressed their deep concerns about the so-named "The Buddha and His Principal Disciples' Relics Grand Cultural World Exhibition", from 9 to 17 December 2006, at the Singapore Expo, hosted by the "Gelugpa Buddhist Association Singapore" --
His Holiness the Dalai Lama's Private Office will like to remind all students of the Dharma, especially students of the Dharma relying upon His Holiness, that this "Gelugpa Buddhist Association Singapore" actively opposes His Holiness's advice and teachings --
This organization strongly advocates worship of the unenlightened evil spirit, dolgyal-shugden --
His Holiness's Private Office will like to remind students of the Dharma that relying upon a worldly spirit, such as dolgyal-shugden, contradicts Lord Buddha's own advice against taking refuge in samsaric spirits --
Hence, any student participating in events related to practice of this worldly spirit effectively "breaks" one's Refuge Vows and this student effectively becomes a Non-Buddhist, negating the source and root of all Dharmic practices --
It is critical that all sincere Buddhists, be it an individual or Dharma centres, make the above clearly known to all via every means possible, be it SMS, email or others --
I didn't register and went in and got noticed...Originally posted by redstar202:I passed by this afternoon while on my way to my examinations. It didn't look very crowded. (not surprising since it is a weekday afternoon). I noticed that some form of registration has to be done before you can get a free entry.
He is certainly mistaken too when he claims that by showing reverence for the relics of the Buddha and other Arahats, a Buddhist “effectively ‘breaks’ one's Refuge Vows and will effectively become a Non-Buddhist, negating the source and root of all Dharmic practices.”I think the reporter is mistaken.

I think the reporter is mistaken.
I believe what the Dalai Lama meant is participating in anything like worshipping the spirit means breaking refuge vows. Not like viewing the relics or paying reverence to relics.
Hence, any student participating in events related to practice of this worldly spirit effectively "breaks" one's Refuge Vows and this student effectively becomes a Non-Buddhist, negating the source and root of all Dharmic practices --

Merry Meet To All,
Well this report is also on the Strait Times. I believe HH Dalai Lama meant those who visit & participate in this event will be regard as Non-buddhists. Although its too strong of a statement to made however i feel perhaps HH Dalai Lama feel the importance to address this issue as Religion that is out of control will caused Chaos in any countries. As pertaining to the Relics on exhibition, its unbelieveable there are so much Sariras & Relics around. Anyway this represent my personal perspective. Thanks again.

Merry Meet Ah Boy,
Well the moment you go there, they will need to do a registration where they will dedicate merit to you after the event. Thereafter they will ask you to do chanting of mantra while you view the relics with every steps you made in the premise & issue you with a count clocker to click, the moment you are there, you are participating, its not about viewing only. Every few steps there will be a donation box. There are many Thai Monks & Lamas to give you blessings with donation boxes beside them. Alot of stalls selling various items from treligious products to food, Thai Amulets aplenty there. Very big scale even bigger than Holistic Fair, I am not suprise if there is also MLM there. These are the feedbacks i got. BWB not in support of this event right? To my knowledge some forums are promoting this event. To be frank in my point of view when HH Dalai Lama speak, he will not change his words, words are power & integrity, he only made such speech because he feel a need to. I do feel its abit too harsh but i shalt not comment on that, do not think i have any right to comment also. HH Dalai Lama's short commentary tells a thousand words. Of coz those who are interested can go view, its very individual. Thanks again.
Blessed Be,
