Similarly there is no restrictions of a Buddhist on anywhere they can go - they can go to church, to taoist temples, to mosques, to hindu temples, anywhere. As long as they do not participate in anything superstitious that is alright. Buddhists do not worship other worldly gods and deities. But we can enjoy watching their culture, rituals and visiting their places of worship as a form of appreciating art. -

well....this thread now has a new meaning given the Dalai Lama's advice against participating in events and devotions to Shugden whom he claims to be an evil spirit and whoever invloves in such activities shld not be coming to his speeches. And you also warned ppl fr going to the Buddha's relic exhibition at expo.
there is a line drawn as far as such is concerned and when it comes the this particular topic on temple mediums and buddhist monks...you started to make buddhism very condoning and flexible when such things are concerned.
so the bottomline i wanna put to you without being offensive is that what is the stand of buddhism afterall? Like a mimosa? open and closes according to situations and preferences? -

I believe Christianity is more so than Buddhism
Verses and doctrines can be manipulated to suit own interests ,particularly harmful ones
including materialism, relationships problems, a shield to wage wars...
So, why not clean own house first before peeping into your neighbour's house? -

Anyway Dalai Lama's message needs a very strong message to other people not to support the activities of the organisation. That organisation is raising a lot of money out of that event.
As for merely visiting it, try not to (negative connection) but if you visit it so be it. Just treat it like any other tour in some other countries... where you visit their places of worship etc.
I believe the monk is invited to watch it and it is not so nice to refuse to attend. -
the houses u get to see r always the wrong houses and when confronted such houses the sound Church will not condone such ways and certainly when the things does not comply with absolute biblical truths it is identified as false teachings and cultic.
we do not shift standards to make christianity more popular and welcomed. One moment we seemed to warn others abt a dangerous gelupa group the next moment we say yes and ok to spirit mediums.
people that try to compromise biblical standards are not christians at all.
I would certainly feel shocked and amused if i were to come across a monk being invited to speak at a church service and vice versa. I am narrow minded and am happy with that. -
