I don't agree with that mantra as just chant it clear away bad things you do

but Buddha provide Repentance teaching for us to face the world our past deeds
Note :Reciting the mantra doesnt mean wiping the records of the past misdeed ,but gives u calmness to face the impending fruition of the Karma

you have to think about the past as endless cycles in order to fully appreciate what this mantra can do for you. it is not that the mantra doesnt have instant noodle effects, it just means that you havent eaten for a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg time...

Actually we do not need to understand the meaning of mantra. Mantra are sacred words, and therefore they are the only things said by Buddha that are not translated. When you chant the mantra.. chant with an empty mind, it works best this way. Do not need to interprete or try to understand what you are chanting. If you cannot chant with an empty mind then there is little use. -
from what i know ... mantras are not translated is becos mantras consists of too many meanings beyond words and description and thus not translated.
Just like the word "Namo" which has seldom been translated with too many meaning such as relying, taking refuge, to adore and honour etc etc ...
So the importance of reciting mantra is not with empty mind but to keep the core spirit n faith of the mantra recited. Suppose u r reciting the great compassion mantra, one should make compassion grow within yr heart and stretch that compassion to a larger and larger extent.
Mantras are not magical curse that contains any power, it is the people who recites it and living up the spirit that indeed is the true power.
Thus reciting with empty mind will result in empty result and meaing no point at all ...
Will the mantra be the magic that transform your mind or will u be the magic of the mantra that transforms yrself n others ?

there are worlds where the only means of communicating dharma is via fragrance, no words or sounds are needed at all -
I remembered from the commentary of the Surangama Sutra it was stated that even when there are 100 or many people asking the Buddha different questions in different languages, the Buddha will be able to comprehend all questions simultaneously. The best part is that He is able to answer all the questions simultaneously and all the receipents will be able to understand Him.
