Isn't slaughter a part of food preparation? I see AEN has a prejudice against those with SPD.Originally posted by An Eternal Now:They must be quite sadist, or they have Schizoids Personality Disorder.
Slaughter is a violent and cruel part of food preperation. I will not say anything more otherwise I will be a hypocrite as I am not a vegetarian.Originally posted by Herzog_Zwei:Isn't slaughter a part of food preparation? I see AEN has a prejudice against those with SPD.
I think your friends must be quite young... Young people generally like to act tough and nonchalant. When I was younger I used to demonstrate my "bravado" by using my hands to twist the heads off lizards....Originally posted by Isis:EHHHHHHH...

Exactly. Humans are not made for eating meat.Originally posted by oldkid:It is rather funny how people perceive things around them. Let's look at things logically.
The meat we eat are called chicken, beef, pork, mutton, vension and etc. The common thing about them is that they are all meat from slaughtered animals. So, if life is taken away from a sentient being, what is left is a corpse. So all these chicken, beef, pork, mutton, vension and etc are nothing but corpses' meat. But of course corpse meat don't sound so good, beef sound tastier. We can't say we eat the flesh of other animals because to eat the flesh, we will have to bite a chunk of meat off the animal while it is still alive. Only carnivores eat the flesh of other animals.
The architecture of our human body is not designed to comsume meat. We do not have canine teeth like tigers or lions to tear meat. Instead we have molars to grin nuts and grains. Our intestinal track are long, which is designed for the digestion and absorption of fibers and minerals from plants, fruits and herbs. Carnivore's intestinal tracks are short which aid in protein digestions. This explain why our feces are dark in color when little fibre is consumed or when someone doesn't have bowel moment for a long time one will need to have fibre intake to aid bowel moment.
One last thing to note is that when the animals are slaughtered, they released a huge amount of toxin due to their feelings of fear and struggling. We consumed that toxin too.
Eating habit is a personal preference. Alot of people enjoy eating meat. I like to eat meat too but seeing it has more disadvantages than advantages, I am cutting down on corpse meat intake too.

I see oldkid is indeed a bit lost in anatomy especially in orthodontal areas. Homo sapiens do indeed have a pair of canines on each side.Originally posted by oldkid:It is rather funny how people perceive things around them. Let's look at things logically.

That canine teeth is too small to be considered as a canine. An actual canine tooth is like a fang. Easiest to see one is the common household cat or dog. If your teeth is that long, yup, you have canine.Originally posted by Herzog_Zwei:I see oldkid is indeed a bit lost in anatomy especially in orthodontal areas. We are omnivores which are very adaptable to many kinds of enviroment. Note that in cold areas, humans tend to have a higher intake of meat rather than vegetables due to the reason that calorie consumption is higher. Hence Eskimos surivive on an almost all meat diet.
Next, in terms of muscle replacement, active athletes tend to have higher wear and tear and animal proteins are faster to digest than plant protein. However, in terms of amino acids, plants have more but are harder to digest.
Hence, I won't exactly say that being a full-vegetarian is being the best in terms of health but having a limited meat intake is indeed important for good health.
Tell that to those who can't take seaweed due to allergy and see what happens to their iodine deficency. There are 101 cases out there which causes a person to take meat for their nutrietional diet and we are just discussing about the obvious few. Hence I believe that meat is a essential part of the human diet but should be taken sparingly.Originally posted by oldkid:That canine teeth is too small to be considered as a canine. Eskimos survived on meat most of the time cause where in the world do they find vegetables? Same as the monks in Tibet, they consume meat because the climate is insuitable for growing vegetables and all they have are goats and cows.
I agree athletes need proteins from meat to recover as protein from meat is somehow better than from beans/nuts.
I think the problem here is choice. The above 2 cases are people with little or no choice. By choice, people who are not vegetarians will definitely consume meat. However I do meet people in study group who cannot take full vegetarian meal. They tend to have rashes or vomit/diahorrea seriously. But other than these extreme cases, it is still much healthier to be a vegeterian. Better still, consume only organic vegeterain food. I had consumed before a full 8 days organic vegetarian food during Refuge Taking in Taiwan. Wah.... the food taste better than those meals I had in S'pore with meat...

It is not necessary to eat meat for protein if you know how to cook a wide range of vegetarian servings that can replace the meat's protein.Originally posted by Herzog_Zwei:Tell that to those who can't take seaweed due to allergy and see what happens to their iodine deficency. I can't believe how ignorant is AEN. Firstly, yes, vegetables have all the proteins required by humans but they take a very long time to be absorbed by the human body.(nearly double to triple the time as compared to meat) However, if the body is heavily used or badly injured, proteins are needed at a much quicker pace then what pure vegetarian food can provide. If the proteins are not provided in time, then I would advise the patient or athlete to be ready for some very bad consequences.Originally posted by An Eternal Now:It is not necessary to eat meat for protein if you know how to cook a wide range of vegetarian servings that can replace the meat's protein.
I have read before, that the amount of protein that people usually take by eating meat is unnecessary. There are a lot of plant products that provides the right amount for human.
There are a lot of high protein sources of vegetarian food that is just as good as meat. I have never heard about quicker pace. But I have never heard of monks having trouble healing, etc, due to their vegetarian diet. Lots of monks live till old age, many are over 100, some like the famous Zen Master Hsu Yun of modern times, who lived till 120 years old. Plus if you become vegetarian you take in a lot less unhealthy stuff. And have less chance of heart attack, etc.Originally posted by Herzog_Zwei:I can't believe how ignorant is AEN. I wonder where can we buy organic crabs. Organic chilly crabs and organic drunken prawns. Crabs and prawns are my favourite meat.Originally posted by norm:yes, organic food product is the best. No chemicals.
