I am all for compassion, and I fully agree extending that compassion and loving kindness to Hitler. However this must not be interpreted as excusing the genocide and other crimes he has committed.
If I may take another page from the Christians, love the man, hate his sins. -

There is no point attaching to Hilter's and the war as all are in history.
Let move the stage back to the present where it matters.
If only the world is truly learning its lesson, however Genocide is still happening to somebody in certain parts of the world.
What can we do to help ? One way is to educate people. However, we still see people who are "highly educated" as racist.
In buddhism, bad karma primary occurs due to the three posions [i.e delusion, hatred, selfish desire]. Buddhist are encouraged by the Buddha to cultivate so as to purify our mind of these defilements. Once our mind is free of such defilement, we will stop committing such bad karma again, in this lifetime and perhaps in our next lifetime if any. -
