meat eating .....
Hi, Buddhism and Yi Guan Dao is different. Buddha never demanded that his followers become vegetarians, although it is advisable. I am myself not a vegetarian, however I abide by the 5 pure meat principles (see:
Five Clean Sources of Meat). It is especially advised in the Mahayana tradition for bodhisattva practitioners. So Chinese Mahayana monks practise abstaining from meat. However lots of other traditions of Buddhism does not practise this.
For example, Theravada Buddhism does not practise abstaining from meat. However they avoid eating meat under three conditions: were that a monk should not have seen, heard, nor have any reason to suspect, that the meat was from an animal killed specifically for him. Tibetan Buddhism also not so strict on abstaining from meat because Tibet is a high altitude area and it is difficult to grow vegetation, and so the animals are largely relied on for multiple purposes.
