BUDDHIST LIBRARYMajor Activities
Robes & Books Offering will be conducted on Oct 28 at 10.00am-9.30pm. Please contact the library if you wish to donate any books and robes. The annual fund-raising food & fun fair will be held on the field next to the Aljunied MRT station on Nov 18 at 9 am-5 pm, while the 25th anniversary dinner will be organised on Dec 8 at 7.30 pm. Tickets for the two events are now available.
MAHABODHI MONASTERY Memorial Puja
In commemorating the 10th anniversary of the demise of the late Master Songnian (1911-1997), the monastery held a memorial puja on Aug 26 at 11 am with Venerable Long Gen leading the participants in the recitation of Amitabha Sutra. In conjunction, an exhibition of the late MasterÂ’s artworks also took place. The late Master was remembered not only for his artistic accomplishments but also for his active role in raising funds for the community.
INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BUDDHIST UNIVERSITIES Formed on 28 May 2007, IABU is an international forum for institutions of Buddhist higher education. It provide opportunities for them to network, understand and benefit from the richness and variety of the multinational Buddhist traditions. It will function mainly through its Executive Council and an International Secretariat, to be based at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University in Bangkok. In the near future, IABU expects to develop a variety of collaborative efforts, such as mutual recognition of each others?qualifications as well as exchanges in administration, teaching, research and outreach programmes. Established in 1999 by James Low and his wife, Joyce, Kampung Senang Charity & Education Foundation is a registered non-profit charitable organisation which seeks to discover the “kampung spirit?and its core values. Over the years, it has implemented eight community care and service projects, thus benefitting more than 5000 people. In 2005, it won the Good Samaritan Award and in 2006, clinched the first prize for Community-In-Bloom competition.
Eco-Harmony Campaign
The Foundation is now seeking invitations from schools and colleges to present Eco-Harmony messages in a fun & interactive way through DVD presentations and food sampling. On Nov 3, it will celebrate its 8th year anniversary from 10am to 7pm at Block 106 in Aljunied Crescent with eco-harmony exhibition, exercises, organic food tasting and talks.
Pilgrimage Tour
The Foundation is organising a pilgrimage tour to India and Nepal from Dec 5 to 16. Participants will be able to hear Buddhist teachings, partake in vegetarian meals and offer lamps at the famous Swayambhunath Stupa in Kathmandu. For registration, please call 67852568.
BUDDHA DHAMMA MANDALA SOCIETYTeaching Programme
Dr Somaratne is currently teaching at BDMS till Oct 26. He delivers a series of talks on early Buddhist teachings every Sunday morning at 10 am. He is also conducting a Pali language course for beginners every Tuesday at 7.30 pm and a Sutta study course every Friday at 7.30 pm. Dr. Somaratne holds a Ph.D. Degree from Northwestern University, U.S.A. and is teaching and doing researches on Buddhism.
CITY DHARMA Initiated by a group of NUS Buddhist Society Alumni, this programme aims to reach out to and interest SMU students in Buddhism. So far, a few sharing sessions relating to Buddhism have been conducted by professionals in their specialised fields.
