Such warrior clans are said to protect the Hindu Dharma as well as its practioners.Originally posted by path_seeker:Reference to http://www.sacred-texts.com/bud/bits/bit-int1.htm, it says :
The Buddha's given name would appear to have been Siddhattha; but as the word means "Successful in his Objects," it looks as though it might be a simple epithet. The p. 2 Buddha belonged to the Sakya clan. The word "Sakya" means "Powerful;" and the families that bore the name had a reputation for pride and haughtiness. They were of the warrior caste, but cultivated the peaceful arts of agriculture. By his contemporaries The Buddha is usually called Gotama, or, as the word is sometimes Anglicized, the Gotamid. It is not quite clear why he and others of his clan should bear the name of Gotama in addition to that of Sakya. It may be they claimed descent from the ancient sage Gautama (Sanskrit "Gautama" becomes "Gotama" in Pâli), to whom are attributed some of the hymns of the Rig-Veda; or it may be, as Burnouf has suggested, "because Gautama was the sacerdotal family name of the military race of Sakyas, who, being of the warrior caste, had no ancestor or tutelar saint like the Brahmans, but might, as the Hindu law permits, have taken the name of the sage to whose family belonged their spiritual guide."

Interesting ... i not debating with you... if u think I am ,i just stating facts ,thats allOriginally posted by path_seeker:A brief search on the meaning of Sakyamuni, gives me the translation : Sage of Sakya Clan.
Sakya Clan historically is a warrior caste However, our compassionate teacher decided to abandon his status, to seek the truth for the benefit of all sentient beings.
Anyway, the most important, is not the name, but practise what Lord Buddha taught. Debating on dharma knowledge will not bring you to Buddhahood.
I think You have more interesting post on Dharma Drum Mountain by Ven master Shengyen to offer . Please post moreOriginally posted by path_seeker:A brief search on the meaning of Sakyamuni, gives me the translation : Sage of Sakya Clan.

Hmm.. i wonder which point, verse made you think that I'm actually debating with you. You state the fact, I disagree, and posted my evidence. I regard this as a healthy exchange of differences, unless u see it otherwise.Originally posted by bohiruci:Interesting ... i not debating with you... if u think I am ,i just stating facts ,thats all![]()
Unless you say that your postings are undebatable, and is the ultimate truth, then okay, I will not debate with you any further, in any of your future posting.Originally posted by bohiruci:I think You have more interesting post on Dharma Drum Mountain by Ven master Shengyen to offer . Well, thats up to individual .Originally posted by path_seeker:Unless you say that your postings are undebatable, and is the ultimate truth, then okay, I will not debate with you any further, in any of your future posting.
And, it's really not up to you to tell me what to post, and when to do it. In fact, I prefer to discuss, or "debate", than to post any new topics.

A term is merely a term, a name is an attachment. If we are attached to what we have, even knowledge, we will never realised. All suttras hold the equal weight. I'm merely showing you alternative views and informations. At the end of the day, if you decided what i've posted is wrong, then so be it. No harm done anyway.Originally posted by bohiruci:Well, thats up to individual .
But does not mean there is a win-win situation
worldly ,yes the meaning of Sakyamuni Buddha is there
and on a higher level is from the Brahma net sutra . There isnt a right or wrong in any of the meaning behnd the name of Sakyamuni Buddha
again ,it depends on individual
since you have said not to debate , but you havent show how much you know
and
you have always said all this are pointless, do verified if you are towards the first bhumi ,
if not , then stick to what you are

I think we all are seeking a path that could take us to Buddhahood.Originally posted by bohiruci:interesting
so what path you seek ,with your nick as path_seeker ? if you are into zen ,thats great .
I have been welcoming to you to post new topics .If you find thats a insult more than a challenge ,then we dun need to discuss much ,as there isnt anything to discuss in Buddhism
Instead of being a follower ,why not be a leader ?
Great Food for thoughts
interesting ...Originally posted by path_seeker:I think we all are seeking a path that could take us to Buddhahood.
I will post new topic, when there's a need to. Why worry? And why would you want to see your comment to me as an insult? Is this an intentional comment? Dharma practising is not about challenging each other in terms of knowledge, it's about putting what you've learnt from the great teachers in to Practise. Since you have always been a fan of Ven Master Sheng Yan, I'm sure you know what he meant by Sheng Huo Fo Fa, Dharma in Everyday Life.
And last but not least, if my postings have bothered you in anyway, I'm apologise.
So, in your view, Sheng Huo Fo Fa is not for everyone. Then what type of dharma teachings is for buddhist whose earning is below $2600 per month?Originally posted by bohiruci:interesting ...
no , u did nothing wrong , its different view of the Buddhadharma
I was just feeling teaching from the sutra must not be ignored ,wikipedia source not really that reliable ,thats all
We have different background in Buddhism , I have already told them in the topics in "Buddhism in Japan "
so to me Sheng huo fo fa hua only apply when u are having smooth times in life .
interesting....
