Studying buddhism can be simply defined as living your life.
Sounds 'zennish' but it is not right.
Though Dharma is not apart from our living, we need to know the right way of practise and our viewpoints of things must be correct.
There are many people, because of not understanding the Dharma, they live their lives foolishly. That is truly a waste of time because his life will be full of sufferings. Through Buddha's wisdom you can live your life without such foolishness. Because they do not have the Right View, they treat all compounded dharmas (phenomena) as Constant, Not-Empty, and Satisfactory. They are attached to a 'self'. This is the cause of endless sufferings, as opposed to realising Nirvana, the unborn, the highest bliss.
But if you know Buddhism you will view all things as transient, empty, unsatisfactory/suffering, and lack of any self or agent. You will see things non-dualistically and will not suffer. There will be awareness/clarity and bliss. Then you can realise Nirvana.
Therefore if you want liberation you still have to learn the Dharma and practise from there... and learn under someone highly enlightened and experienced who can guide you.
