Of 23 Koreans taken hostage by Taliban militants in Afghanistan last week, one has been killed. The tragedy dashes the hopes for the safe return of all Korean hostages. Our thoughts are with the families of the victim who was killed during volunteer work in a foreign land. -

Sure, I came to the Buddhism to gain sympathy for the Koreans so that people can offer some blessings and prayers for the Koreans because I see in ~EH~ many Christians like you cursing them for being "stupid" for volunteering themselves as medical aid workers and sacrificing themselves.
2. I did not curse the koreans stupid. They are fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Dun put words into my mouth.

I believe that as pastor, he felt that it was his responsibility to "protect" his people and was beaten and tortured till he could not walk.

keep your personal feuds aside la. i believe this is to be a place of peace and hope? lets be gracious, we all want the koreans back home.
to whoever who felt that the koreans were dumb to go there, i believe in your eyes of logic, yes indeed its so. but do give them the due respect for the fact that despite the danger, they overcame it and did what they knew was right.
maybe because of their sacrifice, they paved the road for peace in the future. we will never know.

Hi all,
What some of you are trying to do here is a very nice and thoughtful gesture. I'm sure if the family members of the victim and hostages knew, they would be very appreciative and thankful. I believe the thoughts and prayers of many are with them.

cbsnews managed to talked to one of the captives for about 3mins. They are begging for help "All of us are sick and in very bad condition".
she was unaware of any of the men being killed.
One of the 22 South Korean hostages being held by Taliban militants in Afghanistan made a desperate plea for help in an exclusive interview with CBS News. The woman calls her situation "exhausting" and "very difficult."

For many people, the sacrifice is the reward... it is difficult for most people to understand... but I believe that even with zero rewards, even knowing that they would have zero rewards, they would have gone...

Why? Most people are seeking a heavenly reward and they are different, they have "more balls than almost everyone else" because their motivation is not "heavenly reward ". That is what I am trying to tell you.
It is a calling and until you have this calling, you cannot understand the motivation.
People with a calling behave in a "stupid manner" to most people but like Mother Theresa, that is because the have a different motivation from most people.
What I am trying to tell you is that their sacrifice is their reward.
You might wonder how "sacrifice' can be a reward. It is a reward because they are not like everyone else. Their happiness and the joy they have does not come from the 5Cs and does not even come from expecting a place in heaven.
They have a profound joy in themselves and part and parcel of having this joy is the motivation to serve and to sacrifice of themselves. You can also say that "the motivation to serve and to sacrifice of themselves" bring them a profound joy. They cannot have the profound joy without the motivation to serve and to sacrifice of themselves.
Don't worry, it is not something that you have to worry about because not everyone is called (but that means that not everyone has the profound joy in themselves that does not come from chasing after and having the 5Cs or expecting a place in heaven) -

Taliban claims prisoner deal
The Taliban is claiming it has now done a prisoner deal which could secure the safety of at least some of the 22 South Koreans held hostage for a week.
The deadline for negotiations has been extended until midday local time (07:30 GMT) on Friday, a Taliban spokesman said, threatening that more Koreans would be executed.
James Bays, Al Jazeera's Afghanistan correspondent, said: "The Taliban are telling us - and we can not confirm from the government side - that they have had talks with the government and they say the have put forward eight names of eight prisoners they want to see released.
"They say the government has accepted those names and says that those prisoners will be released soon."
The Afghan government has not confirmed a prisoner deal reached but authorities had publically refused to swap prisoners for the hostages previously.
