You do not see the link because you have not tasted happiness and bliss in yourself... once you know happiness and bliss you will be compassionate, it is only natural. Of course the other way is to be compassionate and then you will taste happiness and bliss but that is only if you have the "right" compassion. Afghans may use force if hostage talks fail

GHAZNI, Afghanistan (Reuters) - A female hostage among the remaining 22 Koreans held by Taliban fighters appealed on Saturday for a speedy end to their ordeal, as a senior Afghan official said force may be used to free them if talks fail.
The woman, one of 18 female hostages among the South Korean Christian volunteers kidnapped in Afghanistan more than a week ago, spoke to Reuters on the mobile phone of a Taliban fighter.
"We are tired and being moved from one location to another," she said in broken Dari, one of the main languages in Afghanistan.
"We are kept in separate groups and are not aware of each other. We ask the Taliban and the government to release us," she said. Pronunciation of her name could not be understood by a Reuters reporter who spoke to her.
Earlier Munir Mangal, a deputy interior minister, said negotiators were attempting to hold more talks with the Taliban.
"We believe in the talks and if dialogue fails then we will resort to other means," he told Reuters. When asked if that meant use of force, he replied: "Certainly." -

Not every buddhist is a vegetarian or does not eat beef. -

Generally vegetarianism is recommended especially in the Mahayana traditions, but we never recommend 'not eating beef'. That is Taoist and Hindu traditions, not Buddhism's. -

Awareness, mindfulness, compassion... these are some of the basic teaching of Buddhism. At the very least, people must be aware of what is being written here in this thread and to whom the post is addressed.
Compassion. Please pour out you compassion to counter the hatred and negative comments against the hostages. The need is great. Everyone needs to focus and concentrate on the situation at hand. Please focus your mind on compassion for the hostages.

KABUL (Reuters) - Taliban rebels on Sunday ruled out more talks with the Afghan government over their remaining 22 South Korean hostages and pressed for the release of militant prisoners as the only way out of the crisis.
An Afghan team that was supposed to have held more talks with the Taliban on Saturday could not reach the group because of security concerns in Ghazni province, provincial sources said.
Qari Mohammad Yousuf, a Taliban spokesman, on Sunday warned against use of force and pressed for the freedom of the rebel prisoners as the main condition for the release of the Koreans.
"There is no need for further talks. We have given the government a list of Taliban prisoners who should be released and that is our main demand," he told Reuters by telephone from an undisclosed location.
"The government needs to deliberate on it and if it wants to use force, then it will jeopardise the lives of the hostages and the Taliban will resist till the last gasp of their breath," he added, but did not issue any new deadline. -

You condemn them without knowing the reason why they went there would mean that you are condemning people for no reason.
People that condemn people for no reason, it stands to reason are frustrated, unhappy individuals and that would imply that you have a problem. -

I understand Andrew's posting is meant for gigabyte14, however, I still find that he is getting very personal. As you can see he keeps saying gigabyte14 is having a problem.
I understand the situation's importance but it doesn't mean to make someone making a big hoo-haa out of it.
Everyday there are other sufferings going on in the world, not only these unfortunate korean christians.
Just take a look around you, I still see beggars around. There are people right in our country having some handcapped having a deprived life. If Andrew is really compassaionate, he should start walking the talk and not just talking the walk.
"Blessings" that he had so-called are effortless to begin with. Whereas Buddhism taught that beside besides having thoughts and intention, one must act upon.
I suggest to Andrew, if you are reall that concern, you can consider writing an appeal with petition to the Talibans. Do something rather than just yakking in here.
Period. -
Those that have compassion in their hearts, please continue to bless and pray or have kind thoughts for the hostages. Consciousness has no boundary.

Taliban make new threat to kill S Korean hostages

GHAZNI, Afghanistan: Taliban militants threatened on Sunday to start killing their 22 South Korean hostages if the government did not accept by noon Monday their demand for the release of jailed rebels.
A government negotiator repeated however that there would be no prisoner exchange and said the Islamic extremists must free the 16 women in the group of Christian aid workers before other demands would be considered.
"We give a last deadline of tomorrow 12 o'clock (0730 GMT) to the Afghan government to give us their last word if they can release our eight suggested prisoners," Taliban spokesman Yousuf Ahmadi said.
"Otherwise we will start killing the hostages," he said. Four other deadlines set by the militants have lapsed without incident but the Taliban on Saturday expressed impatience, saying 17 of the South Koreans captured 11 days ago were ill and talks must be "speeded up." -
