Erm.. Where did you see that? Also what kind of food do they use for prayers, cos as far as I know Buddhists don't use the kind of food we eat for prayers (except things like fruits, flowers, water, etc, which are offerings out of respect and has symbolic meanings).Originally posted by jlzk:I dont get it really quite contradicting Buddhas' teaching say not to waste food (Especailly to food that are edible) but after what i see today in the monastery make me think likewise~?Why i saw monks and nun throwing away edible food ..i really think likewise i though they say not to throw away and waste food it is a sin to do so?How come i see they throw away food after using it for prayers??
Today i see when i went to pray my great grandmother and grand pa at you know the Tan tock Seng there ...?I dont know what is the temple name but hor its near terrace house de then there outside got wishing well and beside it is all terrace house =) that is for the description of the place. Then today alot of people go pray (They only allow vegetarian food there). So people will buy from them and pray to the ancestor after the nuns see them leave they will throw everything into a big green bin.Originally posted by An Eternal Now:Erm.. Monks and nuns usually won't waste food, unless they throw away due to reasons such as the food being spoilt. The left over food may also be given to wild animals or birds.

I also don't know is taoist or Buddhist but then its sure is either one of them.Pardon me for my ignorance
Good pointOriginally posted by bohiruci:Dear jlzk ,
I think sometimes you have to ask the management why they use green bag .I not sure whether its a buddhist or taoist temple from your description ,but sometimes the mgmt have to throw those food becos its arent hygienic to consume for the common ppl ,as the incense have already contaminated the food and eating it will lead to stomach upset.
Last time many temple practice keeping the food and start to reheat and distribute to others, but AVA guidelines is now strict and many temple have been briefed not to redistribute the food as the stigma of SARS and Bird Flu,
So Please understand from an hygiene point of view ,that it is not intentionally wasting food , but a need to follow AVA guidelines
Sometimes we tend to think food can be redistributed for those offered foods ,but the problem is whoever eat it and have a serious health problem , the Temple committee will be the first to answer .
I wasnt a doctor but I read all about AVA notice to all temples and association in singapore .
Maybe you might think ,maybe get an big gas stove and start reheating the food , the problem is ,not many taoist and buddhist temples have excellent kitchen facilities (I been to some ,which is like an household gas stove)
so it isnt easy for them to reheat food amount to 30 -40 kg![]()

Nono! The whole place is air condition the food and the dishes being offered to ancestor are in different places one side is all place the Tablets then the food will be put there then after praying to ancestor the incense will be place at the far far end corner so the food did not even have contact with the dirt n etc for what i see larhs..nvm i just felt quite puzzled but i am sure they are going to throw it away cause of the green bin they use like every terrace houses got outside one...Ya..Originally posted by bohiruci:Dear jlzk ,

Don't worry lah ...... for one who loves to know the truth ... it doesn't matter where this issue is raised - here in Buddhism or Chit-Chat. Only the prejudiced will feel that this issue is not appropriate here. Speak your mind, and speak up. Nothing is so sacred that we cannot touch or talk - monks, temples, gods, charlatans, pretenders, sex, bosses, politicians, ......Originally posted by wxboi:is it just me or this topic under chit chat but on top it says

I dont get it really quite contradicting Buddhas' teaching say not to waste food (Especailly to food that are edible) but after what i see today in the monastery make me think likewise~?Why i saw monks and nun throwing away edible food ..i really think likewise i though they say not to throw away and waste food it is a sin to do so?How come i see they throw away food after using it for prayers??[/b]
okay ,since you like to know ,why not ask the temple management , instead of ramping your ideas here ,Originally posted by jlzk:Nono! The whole place is air condition the food and the dishes being offered to ancestor are in different places one side is all place the Tablets then the food will be put there then after praying to ancestor the incense will be place at the far far end corner so the food did not even have contact with the dirt n etc for what i see larhs..nvm i just felt quite puzzled but i am sure they are going to throw it away cause of the green bin they use like every terrace houses got outside one...Ya..

Hmmm ... you are probably one of them watching me. So, is politics taboo? Maybe, you don't like politics to be in Buddhism. But tell me why did Buddhist monks in Thailand campaigned for their rights in the new Constituition?Originally posted by bohiruci:tell me frankly ,
if you dare to speak politics here , there are ppl watching this thread
I would advise that part is out for your own happiness and privacy

Hahahaha, you really are watching me. I am giving hope eternally to those who think I am arrogant. That is of course a prejudice. Everyone seems to think that one has to be a conformist, scratch each other's back to be considered nice. Everything else is vulgar, arrogant, loud, exclamation!Originally posted by bohiruci:You are such an interesting person
