since you are a devout buddhist, i thought this must be made known to all buddhists through yourforum...

these are not the ones in Afghanistan which were tragically destroyed.. this one is in Pakistan..
the story is old.. the statue was damaged.. but today's news over BBC radio tells that the statue has been totally blown up...
for your information and hopefully, everyone can be informed, and from knowing this, maybe a movement or our support of any movement out there can be started to try to stop this..

May I know the reason given by the Pakistani authority for the blowing up of Buddha statue?
Is it the same reason that Islam forbid statue of deity or god? If it is really this reason, then all I can say that some Muslims in Pakistan have utterly no respect for other religions and they DO NOT deserve our respect at all.
Minus point for the image of Islam.

About the 'karma' and retribution stuff on other religion. But still I want to add on something.
Look at Ahfangistan Taliban. What happened to them after they destroyed the giant anicent Buddha statues?
They had being overthrew by Americans. This is karma!

What the fark is the big fuss over a statue? Is the dharma transmission in the statue? If it's old and falling over, might as well blow it up and let travellers in the region travel with safety.

I give you an analogy (but dun flame me for it).
Let say we destroyed those long history holy mosques in the holy land in Middle East for no apparent reason. How will they feel?
(Note: Talibians destroyed the statues because they believed the Qu'ran say NO statue of god and deity allowed.) -
If the mosques are falling apart and there's no money to restore them, kindly destroy them. Well, it's just a statue. If you want to put it more crudely, it's just a piece of rock in the shape of a person.

1. An important piece of humanity's cultural/ historical heritage has been destroyed.
2. The callousness displayed by a group of religious bigots
I am saddened by #1 above, but what truly is disturbing is #2. If there are more and more such people roaming the earth.... I suppose this tie back to the dharma ending age we are now in. -

Actually, I had been thinking...we should actually be praying for those who blew up the statue, not cursing them and hoping bad karma will fall upon them.
I guess bad karma will fall upon them. All the more we should pray for them. -
