I recently heard about these "9 internal mara".
They arise from within, and doesn't depend on any external entity, so can only be subjugated by oneself.
The last 4 type of mara which is often overlooked by practitioner, there are:
1)mara of root of goodness
Those people who think himself as a high capacity person.
They feel proud for having better shan4 geng1 and hence feel lazy to practice.
2)mara of zen
People who did well in meditation, can easily enter into one-pointedness and samadhi,
but they choose to stay in the pleasure of zen and this affect the attaintment of wisdom.
If I am not wrong, this is one of the bodhisattva precepts.
3)mara of dharma friends
Some people very stingy in giving dharma to others, they afraid of being exceeded in practice.
4)mara of bodhidharma
There are some people very attached to his own perception in dharma.
Their understanding of dharma is very shallow, stiff and couldn't breakthrough.
If anyone has the original and complete description of all these 9 internal mara, pls share with us, tks.
