no such thing , just go ahead and placed oneOriginally posted by kumangal:hi there i would like to ask if it is ok to have such a pusa statue at home cause many ppl say at home cannot have this statue but in the temple can as this pusa actually help the ghost to chao du so if i have this statue at home i will have a lot of ghost who want to b chao du to come to my house. Is it true?
Well, first of all, let me share with you my personal understanding about what I learnt about Di zhang wang pusa so far.
I'm not sure if you have read the entire Di zhang wang pusa's Original Vows sutra yet. But if you haven't, please do. Lots of questions about ghosts and installation of Di zang wang pusa's statue at home are answered in it. And if at any time you don't understand, feel free to ask in the forum.
Before I share my views, I would like you to ask yourself a few questions:
1) What are the two main qualities shared by all Bodhisattvas (like Di zhang wang pusa) and Buddhas?
2) Why am I learning about Buddhism and what purpose do it serve for me by installling a Di zi wang pusa statue for praying at home?
Is it merely to pray for good fortune, good health for myself and/or my family?
The di zang wang sutra emphasised this important point: Anyone who bows, put his hands together with utmost respect when praying to the Bodhisattva's staue, or recite the bodhisattva's name wholeheartedly..etc, , all spiritual beings who pass by the house of that devotee would accord the devotee and his/her family the same respect as what they would for the Bodhisattva.
That devotee and his/her family would be protected from the disturbance of evil spirits by these spiritual beings who has profound respect and devotion to the great wisdom and compassion of the Bodhisattva.
By having the Bodhisattva's statue in your house and praying to it wholeheartedly, and constantly keeping in mind the Bodhisattva's great compassionate vows to save all beings who have fallen in the 3 evil realms or those who have not yet gain total deliverance from endless cycles of rebirth, any 'ghost' that comes to your house will not harm you or your family.
If any ghost does want to be chao du, it is a good thing actually for them to learn of the Bodhisattva's name and his form through you, a devotee of the Bodhisattva.
Remember praying to Bodhisattva's statue is actually to remind ourselves constantly about the boundless and great wisdom and compassion of Bodhisattvas, and to learn to be compassionate in our daily thoughts and actions towards all beings, ghosts included.
If ghosts could be chao du by you praying to Di zang wang pusa, do you realise you are actually practising compassion? This is what true Buddhists would really consider as "praying to and honouring Di zang wang pusa".
Hope the above can serve as a form of reference for you.
Take care. :)
but a lot of ppl say this di zhang wang pusa is only for big temple
i pray to him one. those pple have wrong conception on di zhang wang.
I have Di Zhang Wang Pu Sa statue at another side of my room (not my bed) for almost 2 years.
I have never seen a ghost in my current house before.
On the other hand, I saw ghost in my previous rented house. (I haven't got Di Zhang Wang Pu Sa statue at that time anyway) That time I was 9 years old.
I remember that time I was playing heart sutra on tape daily... so it is possible the ghost wanted to 'chao du'... what my mom did for me is to dedicate merits to the ghost in that house.

So do you personally believe in it?

Because I saw it myself... a ghostly hand coming out from below towards me... I was totally freaked out and couldn't even move... never been that freaked out before. Then I remember even blinking my eyes and the thing was still there... but suddenly disappeared.
What was it trying to do ? ![]()

"O Manjusri, then the elder's son consequently took his vow, saying, `I now vow that I will provide, throughout incalculable numbers of kalpas in the future, for the sake of all sinful, suffering beings on the six paths of existence, extensive expediencies to cause them all to be delivered and liberated before I myself realize Buddhahood

yes, that's "地ç„ä¸空,誓ä¸æˆä½›" instead of ‘我ä¸入地ç„,誰入地ç„' , right?
ok i did some search..maybe the saying/thinking did came from ancient buddhists masters. but maybe not the actual sutra per se.

SW: [very sorry accidentally press the wrong button..can pls repost if you remember. it got something to do with you saying that you think that ‘我ä¸入地ç„,誰入地ç„' is more compassionate and noble than 地ç„ä¸空,誓ä¸æˆä½›. ]
hmm...to me the former is more noble/compassionate de. i mean so yeah, you don't mind entering hell "入地" when others mind. yes, then again, after that?...
keep on liberating every one of hell beings even if they keep on coming down, is more worst, i feel, no?.
but i think there's a touch of realisation/transcendent wisdom for the latter. Ch'an Master some what entered a state of non-duality between great suffering and liberation.
