Hi all,
This thread is for any Buddhist group to share its activities - Dharma talks, visits to elderly homes, courses, etc. You can also share your experiences from the activities.
Just to start the ball rolling, I've been to Ajahn Brahm's talk - Creating Good Karma, organised by the Buddhist Fellowship on 27 Jan 2008. (I'm not a BF member by the way.) The talk was very interesting with Ajahn Brahm sharing his experiences and humour. I'm definitely looking forward to more talks in Feb.
Hi, thanks for sharing :) I have heard a few Ajahn Brahm talk, quite good..
I mostly attend the dharma activities in my own dharma center, the timetable is as follows (those interested may want to attend the talks by 'Chen Ming An Chuan Jiao Shi Fo Fa Kai Shi (VCD)' (talks by my taiwanese teacher) as well as the Dharma Q&A by 'Xu Lao Shi' (my local dharma teacher):

Hi AEN,
Thanks for sharing as well:) You mention that there is VCD on talks. Where can we purchase them?
Besides that, do you know of any community service activities organised by Buddhist groups?

Nope.. you can't purchase them unfortunately...
Community services, have to ask others.. I'm not too sure.
Oh...
In that case, what do you think of starting our own activities group (not affiliated to any Buddhist group), something like the meetup groups?
http://www.meetup.com/cities/sg/singapore/newest/?radius=50.0
We can meet up to plan activities ranging from community service to dharma discussions or even self-improvement activities. Anyone interested?
A bit off-topic here.
I just saw a vegetarian meetup group, just check out the following website if you are interested:

Hi may i suggest set up a yahoogroup where we can link to various newsletter from different buddhist group and temple. And round up people who might be interested to go for any dharma talk and activites. As for the idea, i think it is a good.
Regarding planningwise, i'm not sure that i'm currently free to commit but i can try to help.

and Fireflies mission

That's great:) It's ok if you could not commit at this time. Ideas will be nice - like what type of community service, dharma discussions, self-improvement activities, etc.
I can't contribute much in terms of dharma discussions...still need to learn basic Buddhism.

Dear Jinsei,
I used to have a Buddhism meetup.com group ,the issue with meetup.com is they started to ask for hefty charges for meetup subscription ,so we drop the membership there
Buddhism meetup group still exist in my other forums
I dun have much time to arrange meetup due to my work

That is also a good idea. We can also use the yahoogroup as a platform for organising new activities. Anyone wants to share their thoughts on this matter?
I am thinking about organising an activity that would allow us to practise our Right Speech as well as English conversations - especially pronunciation. Or have any groups organised this already?

This idea "Right speech + English Conversation" is quite interesting.
U probably first to organise it based on the above concept.

Since there are only two of us, we could use skype and meet online for at least once a week. There can be different theme for every week. We can start by practising our pronunciation by the use of free online materials and then converse based on the theme. At the end of session, we can review our conversation to see if we observe Right Speech and correct grammar. What do you think?
