Yes, and hence we must constantly watch our mind, maintain an ever present awareness that constantly lets go of our attachment to our sentient thoughts and years of conditioning... so that the mirror bright clarity reveals itself in its purity.
Fortunately we do not need hundreds of years or thousands of years of purification to eliminate thousands of years of conditioning.. personal or collective.
Our Buddha-nature is already ever-present. We just need to practice sustaining awareness that knows every single arising thought and everything we see and hear and yet unattached to any thoughts or sights or smell... arise and pass by itself and leaves no trace. Like a mirror that reflects everything but is unconditioned by any reflections... the reflections appear and disappear spontaneously and leaves no trace.
The reflections, the thoughts, sights and smells are not the problem... they are not real, and they are not a problem... the only "problem" is that we think they are really existing and so we become very attached and affected by it. But if we maintain the mirror-like awareness we see that everything is merely a manifestation of our primordial state, empty and luminous. It is empty of "objectivity" or "inherent existence" which we mistaken them to be (truly existing) due to our dualistic way of perceiving "things" -- in terms of a separate "Self" and the "existing world". They are actually just mirror reflections, merely appearances that is the play of emptiness-clarity. Like the moon in the water, flower in the mirror. The mirror by itself is empty but capable of reflecting everything. So we let go of all our thought conditioning and just meet everything attaching or forming unnecessary thinking, but seeing everything as it is with awareness, AS awareness.
The "letting go" part is very important... it is to drop everything... our conditionings, our thoughts, even our mind and body... completely drop off. Drop off the "self" and what remains is pure awareness as it is. Then whatever arise without the "self" is the function of pure awareness, the function of prajna.
