confucianismis purely Ru shi,i agree somehow. If u think Taoism is chushi ,it's wrong.
Please read some chinese article about it, english one maybe not quite straitforward.
there r about three fundanmental books for taoism ,《黄å¸内ç»》,《è€å》《庄å》.,《黄å¸内ç»》is a medicine book, this is 由医入é“。,《è€å》is a recogonized founder of the Taoism .<è€å> and <庄å>.and different .<庄å> is more chushi.it emphasize on free will .
Hmm, I think it's very possible Taoism nowadays are more diversified and place equal emphasis on "ru shi" as wel.

AEN,
I don't think that it is the 'nowadays' Taoism that place equal emphasis on 入世. From 德 itself, it already has 入世 concept. How would one live in the Path.
There are 81 chapters in 德. And although it is not as extensive as buddhist scriptures, in these chapters, both 入世 and 出世 were taught.

I see..
Just to state a simple fact...德 was earlier than any Buddhism sutra...
You find some conceptual meaning of 德 similiar to buddhism concept.

can't agree more
but tao te ching is profound and is not profound ,because it tell the simple truth ppl ignored.Compare to buddhism teaching ,there are so many sutras and teach the image u see when u enlightened. And so many concept about universe, so many teaching and sects ,i think taoism is not so tough to understand
p.s
I think if someone already read i ching .he will know that ,there r two important element name 'yin' 'yang'.yin stand for female, feminie ,yang stand for male ,and a lot of concept derived from these two concept.YIn yang compose buguas and everything so on.
in fact there r there iching .one is 连山,归 ,and周易。lianshan is writen in xia dynasty ,guizang is writen in shang dynasty ,zhouyi is writen in zhou dynasty.
confucius originate from zhouyi .which put qian ä¹¾in the first gua .which stand for pure malehood .
taoism originate from guizhang .whichi put kun in the first gua .and stand for pure femalehood.
but both of them emphasize on 性,which is a importand concept in chinese culture .
during that period .there r a lot of teaching on this .some say human nature is good ,some say human nature is bad.and some say living is human nature 生谓之性。so human nature is a mixture of both.

Yeah that is impossible, because Buddha taught that he got enlightened without any teachers.

Our original nature is neither good or bad, good or bad are produced/productions from mind. Then what is mind? What is the original mind/original face before birth?
Hui Neng said, "Since the object of your coming is the Dharma, refrain from thinking of anything and keep your mind empty. I will then teach you." They meditated together for a considerable time, then Hui Neng asked Hui Ming, "When you are thinking of neither good nor evil, at this particular moment, what is your original nature (Buddha Nature)?" As soon as Hui Ming heard this, he instantly became enlightened.

What is before Yin and Yang?
Our moderator Thusness said before,
Yes Earthing82,
Polarity certainly isnÂ’t opposites; these extremities are
themselves a single whole. Although the power to abstract has
brought us to the advancement of science today, it also prevent us
from experiencing reality directly, separating the inseparable and
dividing wholeness into opposites. Let us be undefined so that we
can penetrate into the profundity of Tao. ![]()
To speak in Taoist terms, the Pristine Awareness is the great
Unmanifest Infinity. It manifests itself as phenomenon existence
but conceals itself; this is its great reserve. Momentarily it
creates and recreate, this is called the Change. Before yin and
yang, this is called the Original. That Presence that can be felt
but cannot be defined, this is called the Spirit. Movement without
core and center, this is called Emptiness. To see what is as it is,
this is called Wisdom. The Tao in its Self-So, this is called Thus.

Rokkie,
I-Ching Yin Yang is not only said about male or female, as recently I just read a book on I-Ching...Yin Yang means there are both side in this universe...human as in male and female..fire as in oppose water...inside a male there is also Yin n Yang energy...Take a look at Taosim symbol...黑有白,白有黑。。。There are two flow of energy in this universe..which they must remain balance......
Not only Buddhism has many sects and sutra...Taosim has many sect and sutra as well.........In Buddhism, there are only three school of thoughts..Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayan..and all these school followed 本尊释迦牟尼佛 Buddha teaching...Which are the Four Noble Truth and Eight Fold Path...There are many sutra because when buddha start preeching buddhism he used different method to preech different people, as he knows everyone has different level of understanding..as for the sect...some are form to focus on a particular teaching by Buddha...All the dharma from Buddha is as good as could make one enlighten..but it all voice down to individual practise...As I felt that 万法真明自在心。。。all the dharma are within your mind..which if you could see this mindfulness of yours..明心性。。。
To add on..this is a very good F&Q from a Buddhism practioner master..

The mind is the root from which all things grow if you can understand the mind, everything else is included. It’s like the root of a tree. All a tree’s fruit and flowers, branches and leaves depend on its root. If you nourish its root, a tree multiplies. If you cut its root, it dies. Those who understand the mind reach enlightenment with minimal effort. Those who don’t understand the mind practice in vain. Everything good and bad comes from your own mind. To find something beyond the mind is impossible.
~ 1st Ch'an/Zen Patriarch, Bodhidharma
Don't investigate the root of things,
Investigate the root of Mind!
Once the mind's root has been found,
You'll know one thing, yet all is thereby freed
But if the root of Mind you fail to find,
You will know everything but nothing understand.
~ Guru Padmasambhava
Let thoughts go free, just like a dove released from a ship
in the middle of the infinite ocean.
For just as the bird finds nowhere to land
but back on the ship, thoughts have no place to go
other than returning to their place of origin.

I prefer confucius to lau zi.. confucius highlight the importance of civilisation , which is necessary for us to cultivate. I also read taoism comics.. but not so into it.
