Me was told to go participate in the chanting tomorrow becos I signed up to chao du for my mama, but I not familiar with buddhism leh and feel strange. But there again it is for my mum's sake, aiya dunno how.
qiqq9, I would encourage u to go because it's only once a year and you're doing it for your mother. Many times in life, we miss out the opportunity to do many things because we think/hesitate too much. Think of it this way, maybe you did not do many things for your mother when she's alive so maybe it's time to do something for her now?
No need to feel strange; u're doing the right thing.

Hey q|qq9, Good for you to sign for the chao du for your mama. Chao du is like a form of zhu fu / blessing from the venerables to your mama. You are also helping your mama to plant a good seeds in her next life.
Go there and take a look first. It is not as intimidating as it seems to be. =)
Homage to Buddha Sakyamuni, homage to bodhicitta.
Very grateful of your compassion to attain the ultimate enlighenment in our world thousand years ago and bestow your teaching on us.
I confess all my wrongdoings and breaking of precepts in the past 1 year.
I will not forget your teaching and will constantly watch over my mind and get rid of all the unwholesome attitudes arise in me. Pls bestow your blessing to the sentient beings.

thank you. I went and saw that it is a mass kind of event. they said they will not read out my mum's name, so I think it may defeat the purpose. I was told to look for the label of my mum and request my mum to go there. strange.

Hi since you have paid for the fang hui, on the behalf of your mother.. then considered the merits are dedicated to her le. Chanting done in mass event could usually generate more merits than one who have done it alone.
Btw i pm u abt the identity of the temple. just curious which temple u went to.
Yes, I would expect a huge crowd today. No need to be disappointed, there are plenty of other ways. You could do more good deeds and dedicate the merits to your mother, and at the same time, chant 'amituofuo' and even recite 'Sutra of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva's Original Vows'.
May the Bodhicitta grow in your heart and may you treasure the opportunity to practise the wonderful Dharma.
Metta.

This is the common way of merit dedication, no need to have doubt on it. She will definitely receive the merit and blessing.
She will be very happy to have a filial child like you.
In next life quite likely you won't be able to remember her kindness to you... but perhaps you will know you should dedicate merit to your mothers of all your past lifes. The fact that she was your mother will stay true forever.
