Dear all , I do not like to comment on this case ,but I feel Ven Mingyi isnt doing any bad things at all
Mandala may be a failed venture ,but who are we to say when will venture succeed ?
When the lay community approached the sangha for help on any issue ,the sangha cant turn them down
We admit Buddhist community is not like other religion ,unified in social welfare and financial assistance .This makes the spirit of helping others difficult
As Durai already created the precedent in singapore, so everyone will be wearing "tainted" eyeglasses to look at this matter
If I were to lead the Welfare services of Buddhist Community, clear and transparency is my utmost responsibility
and I will fulfill this wish in 5-10 years later

ya, ever since the incident started with nkf, it never affected my month giro donation to NKF. never find it a big a deal. charity is charity. oneself sow, oneself reap. :)

When Venerable Ming Yi did merituous works, how many newspapers and people praised him and regconize him?
And now, when he did mistakes regarding financial, newspaper depict him like a liar and put him in bad spotlight, and of course some people say bad things about him.
What a biased view of these people, influenced by what they see and hear. They always forget about the virtues of others and just focus on their mistakes.
And i personally dont think that he had personal corruption. If you read carefully, it says he lend money to certain people and organization, but there was never a mention about him himself taking the money by himself. This is the key thing.
Next, they say he had a condo under his name. And people assume that he owes the condo. But if you were to take another look, it could be somebody whom he trusted setting him up? A monk also get cheated too anyway.
Hmmmm could it be a big conspiracy to divert our attention from the E_R_P and The Fare increase and the organ thingy? By creating juicy "SAN BA " news .eg like what has the guy with XXX vid gotta do with the renci case and yet they put it front page next to it. when the newpaper themselves say it has nothing to do with the forgery and mismanagement of funds. I smell a plot =)
My opinion is that the buddhist groups from now onwards should leave the running of charities to the government, we cannot afford another case of mismanagement of fund or lack of corporate governance. Most monks are not trained to be professionals in those areas. It is just not worth to devote so much time on charities and then in the end get yourself or even the whole religious group in trouble. Buddhists group in Singapore are doing too less to the promotion of the religion. This religion has become a religion for the old folks. They need to focus more on providing convenent and comfortable environment for prayings, counselling services for devotees, organising activities for the youth, and less emphassis on ritual rites. Of course if the temples have excessive funds, it can always make donations to government run charities, and people will still appreciate the contributions.

lol.. by saying putting charities to govt's care, will invite a lot more questions.. :P ERP all these already caused a bit of concern liao..
How come his bail amount($200 000) is so high? Where does the money go to? isnt it better to stay in jail and let the money goes to the needys?

U dunnu what bail is for. It is not eaten up by anyone.
Bail means deposit, to make sure he comes back for court appearance. If he doesn't come back for court appearance, then lose money loh. If he does, then the money will be returned to him (i.e. the person who gave the deposit) after all court appearances.

in short, the bail is like... a guarantor, you know? like loanshark cases?
u borrow money from them, you need a guarantor also, so if u run, they can go after the guarantor.

But do you realise the opposite also holds true for some Buddhist? When he appeared to be doing good work his 'fans' were praising him and almost regarding him as a local representive of the Sanga. When this controversy occurred some started saying what he did was not against morals, he was framed, he was not at fault, we have no rights no judge him, etc etc.
It's funny how we also forgot that we have no rights to judge other people when it comes to criticising other religions because we don't even understand their culture.
Everyone is bias in some way or another. It's just how you see it.

The problem is that Buddhism in Singapore is heavily intertwined with Taoism and traditional Chinese folk beliefs (which does emphasize alot on rituals etc.)... It is not easy for a non-Buddhist to tell them apart.
But I agree that Buddhists should do more to propogate the dharma.... but care needs to be exercised in all dharma propagation activities lest we turn ourselves into Buddhist evangelists.

leaving anything to the government is even worst..... government is trained professional??? if scoring straight As then fly fast fast up is call professional then why not get all the prof in uni to be the government? ........

It's not just 'lose money loh'. Jumping bail is considered as contempt of court, it is enough for the court to issue a warrant of arrest for people who jump bail.
We need heroes who are upright. Father Kang, Ming Yi and others have failed to control their greed. There must be others who have resisted greed like Mother Teresa. When they shot the photo of the NKF's current CEO's 'austere' room, I found the remark comical. Whatever comments the reporter wrote about her being thrifty is no longer convincing when I saw the size of her office room.
We need heroes like Mother Teresa to debunk these failures.

After years of practising; mind =spiritual, body =layman

How many "Mother Teresa" is there in this world? No offence.
I agree that Wislonhao make a good argument on Venerable Ming Yi. We should always give credit to his merituous work he has done over the years and not throwing everything down even when he is yet to be found guilty on his trial. We should not take this case in comparing with the infamous NKF saga.
Monks are 'naturally' poor in business management and this situation, Venerable Ming Yi may trust the wrong person for managing his charity organization.
In this realistic world, every charity organization is trying to run like a private organization, trying to grown and expand through the economical way; due to the fact that only the fittest one survives.
Loss in investment is also unavoidable, and I'm not sure if he has used some of the charity fund to cover that loss. That is subject to scrutiny of the court to expose this issue.

I beg to defer. The Ven is a very learned person. Published somewhere that he has had MBA in some learnings.
The point is that he should be in a honourably role or just a patron cause rather than directly managing the outfit. As this outfit is operating as a business organization. I still dun understand why a top person (not only in this case) can hold so many posts and be at many places at any one time. Nature is fair, we all have the same 24 hours in a day and sharing the same Sun. Not more not less. Is there no other capable people around?

You have a point if he is trained with a MBA cert. I'm not commenting whether if he guilty or not guilty. Just that I feel we should know at this situation more objectively and with an open heart, looking at the Venerable in a holistic way.
Many of us just look at the report from the news and media. This maybe only a friction of what is happening and pointing their fingers based on their skeptical view.
Definitely, there are but how many are willing to spend their time and effort and need to be justifiable to what they have done. In the business world, one may only need to answer to his board of directors and shareholders, but in a non-profit organization, one need to explain clearly to his donors and public, otherwise he will be closely examined.

Ya ya ya! i have exactly the same feeling as you! it is not only the size. the seats, and the slim desktop do not reflect thrifty to me. and paintings too, not cheap you know.
