The problem is exactly here, what happen if u could understand the voices? Sometimes we over- estimate ourselves.
I have a relative who could understand the voices he was hearing, and his life is turned upside down in a bad way, really unfortunate. He's a MBA. Used to earned tonnes of money, very proud of his academic performances, which makes him very sceptical of anything that he hasn't studied before. Sad to say, there tonnes of knowledge on this earth that he has never heard of.
Just be cautious.

Its not a matter of over-estimating myself, you can say its curiosity kills the cat, if life is only eating, sleeping and making money - then life is nothing and boring without exploration and nothing will be invented

Because World War 1 and World War 2 are matters of human politics, and is of no concerns to the Dharmapalas.
Why some monks supposed to have such protectors run and hide in other countries instead of their own country?
Why not? When the army came it is the dharma protectors who are the ones who informed the monks that the troops are coming, and guided them to safety against all odds.
You think the dharma protectors would kill all the troops instead? That's just not realistic. 'Protect' doesn't mean 'attack'.

If you hear voices it is best you seek an experienced Buddhist Master's advise. It is not a good sign. Spirits are from lower realms and it could be that you have karmic issues with them or some other issues.

Pity nowadays people don’t teach right view right thought right path right action right speech right moral etc…
But people like to sell shields for their bad karma
Dharma protectors is not shield for bad karma, but they are a result of our good karma. As long as we practice what buddha teach us, those deva and other protectors will feel touched and automatically attracted to protect us.
It helps us to clear obstacles on the path of enlightenment.
We also don't go and reject people who help in our life, asking police to stop doing his job, hawker to stop selling you food, your friends to stop helping you, and by telling them you don't need shield for bad karma.
“Love is the great protector, protecting us from anger and jealousy, and from harm inflicted by spirits. When Buddha Shakyamuni was meditating under the Bodhi Tree he was attacked by all the terrifying demons of this world, but his love transformed their weapons into a rain of flowers. Ultimately our love will become the universal love of a Buddha, which actually has the power to bestow happiness on all living beings.”
Add on: Loving-kindness meditation is the most "suitable tool" for personal-self protection in any situation.

The name means "Dharma-defender" in Sanskrit, and the dharmaplas are also known as the Defenders of the Law (Dharma), or the Protectors of the Law, in english
Protectors of the universal Truth/Law/Dharma

Yeah...gotta agreed to disagreed that above pic looked more like snake or whatsoever.
Oh my bad, regarding love issue, my point is to practising more often loving kindness meditation is sort of 'protective shield' for Dharma cultivator as its pretty useful for "personal Dharma-protector" somehow.. IMO.
if a person is "sway" enough, can see all these things also. But why would anyone want to see all these extra dimensional things. They do not help in any cultivation of any sort, although I do not deny that there exists more dimensions than we perceive as reality.

The only way it can help is to remind you if you don't practice, you will be part of them one day.

Loving kindness (metta) taught by the Buddha is not the kind of love that brings attachment. It is the cure of Hatred which is one of the 3 poisons.
By love they will quench the fire of hate,
by wisdom the fire of delusion.
Those supreme ones extinguish delusion
with wisdom that breaks through to truth.

It's the same. Just different cultures depict them in a slightly different way.
Originally posted by maggot:Does anyone reads the first sutra ever in buddhism?
The agama sutra? It records Buddha life story what actually happened.
Basically Theravada is based on the Nikaya (Mahayana calls it Agamas).
The naga story is from the Nikayas.

No good. It's not good to end up in the lower realms (hell, ghost and animal realm). Those are realms of suffering and there is no opportunity to practice the dharma or walk the path to liberation. That is why Human birth is considered by Buddha to be extremely precious and rare.
