hi, im new here :D
I had seen somewhere in this forum that homosexuality is not encouraged ? why is this so ? isnt buddhism about all loving kindness ?
I'm new here too. Anyway, here's my view. There's no sutra denouncing the wrongdoing of homosexuality, but again, having sexual desire is not encouraged in the first place, be it with a man or woman. Different teachers has voiced out differently for or against homosexuality, maybe due to the values they were exposed to during their cultivation years. But you are right that we should always generate loving kindness to all, whether or not they are straight, gay, lesbian. In fact, this loving kindness should extend to all sentient beings of the six realms.
Having loving kindness to every sentient beings does not mean we condone actions that we deem as unskillful or unwholesome. Similarly to have loving kindness does not mean we condone the actions of homosexuality. Regarding this issue there are varying views on this, from my dharma teacher's perspective he thinks we should discourage it.
However this does not mean that we discriminate them, not at all. I think I can get along well with anyone whether gay or straight.
Welcome to the forum, btw.
