"There are papers with Sitatapatra Mantra (also known as White Umbrella Deity) being burnt. All these are tantric in nature. There are provisions for this in the terma tradition.
The main idea is that the smoke created by burning the mantra paper also contains the blessings from the mantra, since a Buddha's or Bodhisattva's blessings can not be destroyed. Therefore disasters can be averted, as the causes for the disasters are purified by the mantra-filled smoke."
can burning of mantras paper avert disasters?
how is it different from burning of josspapers?
is this a buddhist practise or neo-buddhist?
