Dear friends,
The author of the book "The Joy of Living: Unlocking the Secret & Science of Happiness" is coming to teach in Singapore. I attended his teaching in 2007 in Bir, India and I found him a truly lively and straightforward Dharma teacher. He is a pretty interesting figure, because apparently since he was young, he frequently came into contact with prominent scientists (mostly his dad's friends) and had many discussions with them. He was also invited to be a "guinea pig" for many scientific studies, including the famous one on the correlation between Buddhist meditation and happiness. Anyway, here's the link to his book: http://www.amazon.com/Joy-Living-Unlocking-Science-Happiness/dp/0307346250
And the main message here is, he's coming here to teach for the first time! Those who are curious about Buddhism & meditation can consider joining some of these teachings. For those who are unfamiliar with Buddhist terminology, if you're interested in learning meditation, I would encourage you to consider registering for the "Mahamudra" course. It is a very sophisticated way of teaching meditation in a systematic manner, and can only be taught by qualified teachers. Do not worry about not understanding, because he is a young and modern teacher who speaks in a modern language.
Anyway, pls see the info below.

At age 13, Rinpoche was the youngest person in Tibetan Buddhism history to enter the traditional 3 years' retreat. And upon completion of his retreat, at age 17, he was appointed by his root guru Tai Situ Rinpoche, a heart disciple of HH the late 16th Karmapa, to be the retreat master of Sherab Ling -- the youngest ever. The youngest son of the late Urgyen Tulku, Mingyur Rinpoche is recognised by HH the 16th Karmapa as the incarnation of the previous Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche as well as Kangyur Rinpoche by HH the late Dilgo Khyentse. In all, Rinpoche completed almost 7 years of meditational retreat before he started on his formal education in the Buddhist scriptural studies.
Mingyur Rinpoche's great interest in science, esp. in neuroscience, was also instrumental in unlocking the secret of neuroplasticity of the human brain -- of how meditation can enhance the activity in the areas of the brain associated with happiness and compassion. As he joked previously, he said he was the 白è€é¼ (a guinea pig for experiment) in 白棺æ(the huge coffin-like fMRI machine) when he worked with the neuroscientists at Waisman Laboratory for Brain Imaging & ï¼¢ehaviour in USA. His first book THE JOY OF LIVING, on meditation and science was published in 2007. His teachings went as far as USA, Europe, South America and some parts of Asia like Taiwan, HK, Indonesia and Malaysia. And finally, Rinpoche's teachings are reaching our shore too. On personal note, I found him to be the only teacher I met who can explain profound Dharma concepts in a structured, simple and 一针è§血(direct) way. He's one of the few teachers who has a widespread infectious humour on-stage. Paradoxically, he's also the only one who can make me broke down after hearing his teachings for the first time -- maybe that sounds sheer exaggeration, but it's for you to find out!

As for language, he speaks excellent English. And he has an excellent Chinese translator, Ani Miao Rong, she's the Chinese translator for HH 17th Karmapa.
Young one,
Thanks for the info!
