Whatever we do or encounter in life will affect alaya conscious.
For exposure to the violent, as long as your attitude towards it as positive, you will not be harmed by it.
Let's say if you saw a very bloody scene like accident or slaughter of animal, if you feel pity towards them, you are creating a good karmic link. If that makes you develop renunciation or become vegetarian, it is even better.
But if you are watching some violent TV programs and feel that it is nice and develop a joyful attitude, you are planting a bad seed in your alaya conscious.
