Euthanesia

  What is buddhist's views on assisted killing or mercy killing, euthanesia? for those who do not know what is euthanesia, here is an elaboration. One suffered from an incurable cancer or diseases, and suffering from the illness daily, but not in danger of dying yet. hence one decide to do a euthanesia. the only country legalised I think is in Holland. is the karma the same as committing suicide?

  This is a controversial topic and I think there might be exceptions. I personally am opposed to euthanasia, being pro-life, and also I believe that euthanasia is also avoiding karma in one form and this karma will continue to the next life.

  "Ask the one that is closest to the patient to decide. like one's mother or father for example. i think parental love is the most unconditional."

  Personally I will support euthanesia if the condition really need it.
  Reason is because a person when dying, his mental condition will affect which realm he will go to.
  If at the moment he feel extreme pain and miserable, especially his request to use euthanesia is rejected by people, he will likely grow hatred, and more difficult to be mindful.
  As a result, one may go to 3 lower realms, which is animal, ghost and hell.

  I think maybe depend on causes and conditions.

  I wonder what will be the Buddha's reply and answer to this question. probably euthanasia doesnt exists during the buddha's time. that said, Buddha said kamma is complex and not easily understood, as it ivolves eon's past.

  I think it would be the last resort and probably best avoided. There is no right or wrong in the matter. We cannot understand the suffering because we are not in the shoes of the latter. The least that an outsider can do is to have compassionate for the people who suffer. One thing about being alive and yet terminally ill is that one still have a chance to practice Dharma.

  does it mean that people suffering from incurable diseases/illnesses were reaping the fruits of their actions from past lifetimes karma? what about those people who were ill health from young to adult suffering from their bad karma? The thing about karma is, it is inpersonal, is neither good or bad and is not administered by a god. if a person were to commit a bad deed, he/she will have to reap the effects.
