Are these the same buddha? Or are they buddhas at all?
What about Qian Shou Guan Yin Pusa - was she the one who cut off her hands to cure father?
Yes. But in Buddhism, we don't say Guan Yin Niang Niang.
We just say Guan Shi Yin Pu Sa/Guan Yin Pu Sa.
Because she is not a goddess, but a Bodhisattva.
Normally , I will address her as Guan Yin Pusa or Guan Shi Ying Pusa.
Thanks for your reply.
"Qian shou guan yin" is The Thousand Armed Avalokiteshvara, if you have noticed with an eye in each palm. The Four armed Chenzig, upon making his vows, tried to liberate sentients being from suffering, as soon as he liberated some, more appeared. This carried on until Chenrezig's head exploded into many pieces. Chenrezig spiritual father Amithabha Buddha, gave Chenrezig eleven heads and a thousand arms to give ability and eyes to seek all suffering!
One of the reincarnation of Chinese Guan Yin is Princess Miao Shan, who gave her eyes(I think) to cure her father illness.
Incidentally, usually facing or behind the Guan Yin is WeiTuo, Guan Yin's Buddhist Protector.
Guan Shih Yin mean Hearers of World's Sound(Cries)
Pusa means Bodhisattva
And if you have noticed Guan Yin Pusa's statues is flat chested and not bosomy.

I like the Kuan Yin with dragon as shown in your link. I have seen the bigger version at the website. I have been searching high and low for this picture but could not find. Any idea where I can find it ?
I have watched those Taiwanese talk shows which they discussed about those people (including one American) who claimed that they saw Kuan Yin. All of them who saw her said Kuan Yin looks very young, like an eighteen year old lady, slim and beautiful and dressed in white like the one shown on Kuan Yin with dragon.

Thanks for the link, at least now I am clearer.
I saw a very very old movie by the old actress Lee Lee Wah who played the role of kuanyin. I was very touched that she sacrificed the arm for the father.
One kuanyin pusa but in many forms.
Another question - what about the 84 of 82 pusas?

I remembered people mentioned that the KuanYin on the cloud was photo taken by someone who saw her. True or false?

The 84 bodhisattvas or pusa is found in The Great Compassion Mantra or Da Bei Zou.
84 is a number used in Buddhism such 84000 , denoting many, so there may be others bearing the number 84!

you decide for yourself !
Avalokiteshvara or Guan Yin is the embodiment of compassion, so when or where ever compassion manifests or if seeing Guanyin will stir compassion in you, that is the most important! Pusa Xin Chang, or heart of a Bodhisattva!
Om Mani Padme Hum(Hung)
The thousand arms of Avalokiteśvara
Many Himalayan versions of the tale include eight arms with which Avalokiteśvara skillfully upholds the dharma, each possessing its own particular implement, while more Chinese-specific ones give varying accounts of this number.
------
There are many names given
觀世音 or Avalokitasvara bodhisattva or Chenrezig in Tibetan .. etc
Avalokitasvara with the ending svara ("sound, noise"), which means "sound perceiver", literally means "he who has perceived sound" (i.e., the cries of sentient beings who need his help.
It is okay if you feel closer when addressing her as Guan Yin niang niang if you want during your praying.
"
... this bodhisattva is the most popular figure in China and other East Asian countries. One of the most well-known forms of the bodhisattva is the one with a thousand eyes and a thousand hands. The thousand eyes allow the bodhisattva to see the suffering creatures in this world, and the thousand hands allow her to reach out to help them. Thus, this depiction is a popular symbol for the Tzu Chi Foundation, which tries to relieve the suffering in this world through the "thousand eyes and hands" of its volunteers.
Actually, everyone can be a Kuan Yin. You may say that you don't have a thousand eyes or a thousand hands or that you lack magic powers, but it is your compassion that can transform you into a Kuan Yin. With your eyes and hands you can help others, and with your compassion you can bring peace and tranquility to this planet. "

I'm also not too sure.
Following is the Taiwanese talk show. It said there was once fire broke out at some of the houses in Taipei. The houses were buring except one of the house which was in between the houses being burnt. The Taiwanese reporters were very puzzled as to why the fire could skip the house and continue burning the house next to it. Thus, they took the photo and it showed Kuan Yin Pusa. It was published in Taiwan's newspaper.
In Kuan Yin's sutra 普门, it says whoever recites Her name sincerely will not be burnt by fire - 设入大,能烧
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkV3FYrKdxU (towards the end of the show 4:09)
From my experience, the most effective way to pray to her is reciting Her name and not using joss sticks.

Yes, I agree. I chant 普门 quite frequently at the temple. However, I don't always ask much from Kuan Yin Pusa unless is something serious. I believe in 缘, but things always work out nicely for me.
Before I become a Buddhist, I pray to her by using joss sticks, I find it not so effective. May be it is because last time I did not put Buddha's teachings into practice. It is not easy to put Buddha's teachings into practice, needs determination to change oneself.

You are right! However, there also examples of temples with Guan Yin facing back to bavk with Wei Tuo or Wei Tuo preceding Guan Yin!
Wei Tuo is also Protector of Buddhist Teachings, that's why the images of Wei Tuo is printed at the last page of booklets!
