It seems that buddhism seems to inspired different amartial arts forms from china to Japan..anyone done any study of this?
The most famous originates from Shaolin, started by Bodhidharma to strengthen the then sedentary monks. He started a series of exercises based on the animals' movement.
Bodhidharma's skills in turn originates from India. Shaolin martial arts is divided into the Northern and Southern school. Various "meng' (?) derives from Shaolin pai(school), even karate is supposedly evolved from Wu Tzu(five masters). there also a Shaolin kenpo in Japan!
Another Buddhist school is the Emei school from Sichuan. However, there also claims the Emei school predates advent of Buddhism, probably the Warring period.
Another the Lama white crane, or the Lion's Roar, founder is supposed to be Ah Tat Tuo. I used to practised this form of martial arts. Considered Northern style or long fist style. As opposed to many Southern style, which emphasize defensive counter attacks, White crane(opposed to other white crane styles) is an offensive style, eg. attack as defense.

I think Shaolin monks aided Li Shi Min during the struggle for the empire, and also during the Ming Dynasty.
