I started this thread instead of adding on to a previous thread on Karma as I'm not into theories, or in a position to quote theories in this life.
Understanding of Karma is growing in the world, regardless of faith or beliefs, as more people are able to recall past life experiences and lessons. It will become even more important in the coming years, as there's a need for an acceleration of karma clearing/balancing on Earth. Good for those who have completed most of their balancing. Not going to be an enjoyable ride for those who still have a lot of 'outstanding balance'. I shall not talk about why there'll be upcoming acceleration, as it's outside Buddhist beliefs.
Anyhow, we need to understand that karma is not just the result of deeds, but also thoughts. But the 'computation' of karma is way too complex and hence pointless for Man to analyse, so we should just be the best person we can be, and let Nature take its course, instead of living life in fear.
Some karmic lessons are optional, though it's a bonus if completed. There's a much bigger picture beyond Man's understanding, that determines specific karmic lessons one has to go through in a particular life. It's not always one for one, or needs to be cleared in the immediate next life. Eg. an abusive husband/father towards his children and wife may live the life of someone being abused in future, but not necessarily have to play the role of an abused child or wife. This could happen 2-3 lives later, after his life as an abusive husband/father.
That said, a person who intentionally leads a life of terrible deeds and thoughts, and continuing to do so, definitely will not like what's planned for him/her in future. :)

I do believe in karma.
I am learning even today.
