ya its difficult to live and get along with people from other era one due to different taste, diff education, diff upbringing etc etc. some old people have wierd and different habits from us, not to mention their old fashioned thinking.

yes. thats why we are our own worst enemies. The Buddha has said, it is better to conquer oneself than to conquer 1000 people. its hard to reform his parents I agree. but try to do it gradually and with patience and loving kindness, one day they will be touched and they will see their folly. I know its easier said than done. if after all is said and done by your friend, and his parents are still like that, then their next lives they will carry on to continue their destructive ways.
