How do we know (Truth)?

he wont understand what Nirvana is. some buddhists also dunno what Nirvana is even. I suppose in his mind, his concept of Nirvana is that of heaven. I dun blame him for having that concept because we know what his religion preaches.

Actually rooney has a point: a lot of so called Buddhists are not Buddhists from the first place.
They visit temples, but the temples may not be Buddhist temples but Taoist temples.
The criteria to be Buddhist is one has taken refuge (gui yi) in the triple gems.
So to clarify whether your parents are truly Buddhists, you need to ask them whether they have taken refuge.

Hi Badzmaro, one truth about Buddhism is to understand every thing , phenomenon and process is everything is impermanent. This is a certainty, an absolute if you wish.
Maybe you would like to contemplate or discuss this in relation to Truth.
Buddhist are individuals and should not be lumped together and is what a Buddhist is like and should be. One may be born in to a Buddhist family or community, one is nominally a Buddhist, a label, an identity, that's all.
Buddhism is about awareness, an we all have differing stages of awareness pending conditions. Another thing is Buddhist is about awareness and cessation of suffering.

If you truly understood the meaning of Buddha, you will not be who you are now, and acted the way you are. One thing about awareness is it comes through our tinted glasses we've made for ourselves.
Just like geis put it, we put different bits of information like a jigsaw puzzle and created our world view. What is important is know what we rested on is impermanent therefore illusory.
We often take things for granted, or see surface of things and pass judgement too soon, sometimes it would be to nice to revisit this.
"Religion" is BIG business, not a Buddhist exclusive. Just a differing way of acquiring income!
