I read with interest two ways of acknowledging "nowness", this current article discourages labelling of the arising of thoughts and sensations, while the other;http://www.sgforums.com/forums/1728/topics/402742, acknowledges the arising of thoughts and sensations by labelling them.
I suppose there are merits to both, however, with thoughts with strong emotions, by attaching a label on it, diminishes the emotional impact by allowing it to arise to the surface and letting go, instead of lingering below the surface.
Neutral thoughts or sensations, a simple awareness of the coming and going of thoughts, as a way of not following any particular thread of thoughts or sensation, grounded in "now".
Anyway, would anyone care to share their thoughts?
labelling has its use, that is to bring attention back to the present. however some labels brings with it preconditioned emotions or thoughts that may not be easily identified and noted. moreover the mind is very powerful, and attaches to anything, including the labels. so sometimes just silently acknowledging is also good.
the important thing is to practice to note the intention. once get pass the noting of sensations or thoughts, either through labels or non-label, its the knowing of the intention that gives rise to the recognizing of awareness.
just dun get numbness...

Thanks for your insight!
One of the advantages of labelling or vocalizing emotional issues is the acknowledgement vulnerability of "I", like getting blasted for incompetence, especially when there is no hieriachical downline to pass the buck, where you can only suppress and bottle up everything. Often this type of suppressed anger is triggered unexpectedly, leaving undesired cosequences !
Letting go of "I" or one's self importance, and accepting one's limitation or helplessness will help the healing process. Often this is difficult given our "meritocratic culture" .
