yes...and to add...
the nature of "God"or the "One" can also manifest through the most sinful person as when compassion awakens beyond his own, even at the spark of the moment...whether it will last depends solely on the strength of his conviction...
be it a christian, a buddhist or any other faiths....anywhere and through any one of whatever creed or status....

IMO, it is very normal to lose faith in Buddhism for some, due to lack of understanding that all living is Buddha. And buddhism never impose on others because it is omnipresent. As a result, it can't possibly has any application of imposing, it depends on yuan. The enlightened one will also never give up them, this life having difficulty in understanding, nevermind, next life, next life not ready, life after next. This life in contempt of ownself, nevermind, next life, next life still got "the slightest" moment to contempt own nature, nevermind, life after next. One day, the oath of attaining Buddha will realise as you has what it take to become Buddha :)

Yep... that's how i understood 'God' to be. Not some personal Being or old man in the sky.
The Supreme Source, which is a Dzogchen (Buddhist) text that describe as if the Source is speaking/narrating. In my opinion, it is the closest describe of something like 'God' in Buddhism. But it cannot and should not be read and digest intellectually.
Regardless of religion, this kind of personified description can be easily misinterpreted and the meaning skewed over time.
Perhaps... it already has...
We cannot force pple to accept a religion.
It all depends on one's heart.
Recently I saw a old man with a young girl dietributing a flyer under a hot sun.Pity them, I took 1 flyer hoping they can finish early and go back.
But, to my big surprise, when the old man gave my the flyer, out come out this sentence from his mouth: "Excuses, did you ever go the church before?"
I smiled at them, wave no no and walk off.
For the flyer, I throw it in the dustbin.

I know many thin people in church.
IMO, the size of living beings is not a concern in Buddhism. It is matter related to the understanding and dwelling on enlightenment.

I like to learn more about å…祖壇經. I heard someone told me that if one can understand å…祖壇經, one is close to enlightenment. It is profound and enlightening.
I will start a thread on å…祖壇經, please post more information if anyone knows. Kindly share and discuss.

Yes, I agree. TS is so bo liao. These two religions are so different in many ways and he expects buddhism to be practising the same as christianity (the detachment query he posted).

Amituofo!
i didn't study much on Platform sutra. the stanza was repeated by MCK.
i use to read commentries on Shurangama Sutra which helped me a lot in insight.
but MCK often say if u can really understand one, u should be able to understand all, like Hui Neng understanding Lotus and Nirvana Sutra without much studing them.
Shurangama is more to open wisdom/insight, and Platform more to understand Emptiness.

Very nice! What is 玻执, 入界 and 解空 by the way?
...digress a bit back to vegetarianism (where poeple don't eat meat, but still eat eggs and/or milk and dairy products) and veganism (where people don't consume any form of animal product at all and avoid using them in daily life).
There are some people who consider veganism as an extreme diet. Which is certainly not the case, a vegan diet can be well-balanced if you know how to eat. There are those who go vegan for the environment and health and can sustain long on it. Many of the others I knew believe in compassion and that animals should not be exploited. There is no such thing as extreme compassion.
Weight loss on a veg diet is definitely not the usual case and varies depending on individual, for myself I haven't lost weight, and recently gain some weight. It really depends on what you are eating. If you are losing weight, it may be that your portions are too small, or you are losing the weight you shouldn't be having. If you are worried, you can take more nuts - almonds, walnuts, peanuts, cashew nuts etc., sure put on weight.

玻执= Overcome attachment.
入界= Entry into Hua Yan Stage/"World" 严境界 or Great Nirvana. All Buddhas' Dharmadhatu 法界.
解空= Awakened to Emptiness.

解空的般若 is not Platform sutra... it's referring to Prajnaparamita Sutra.
The key topics of Platform Sutra are sudden enlightenment (é “æ‚Ÿ), the direct perception of one's true nature, and the unity in essence of śīla, dhyÄna and prajñÄ.

ya i know that Platform sutra is not Prajnaparamita Sutra.
般若-波羅蜜 is Prajna-paramita. Prajnaparamita is related to Heart(PrajñÄpÄramitÄ Há¹›daya 般若波羅蜜多心經) and Diamond sutra(VajracchedikÄ PrajñÄpÄramitÄ SÅ«tra) 金剛般若波羅蜜經 and Maha-prajnaparamita Sutra 大般若波罗蜜多ç».
so i mean since ch'an school refer to 般若 Prajna and the Platform(fully å—å®—é “æ•™æœ€ä¸Šå¤§ä¹˜æ‘©è¨¶èˆ¬è‹¥æ³¢ç¾…èœœç¶“å…ç¥–æƒ èƒ½å¤§å¸«æ–¼éŸ¶å·žå¤§æ¢µå¯ºæ–½æ³•å£‡ç¶“) a lot, they are all related in a way. and i'm thinking ch'an school is more related to realising true emptiness as compare to 法åŽ, 楞严, 弥陀. Realising true emptiness is the same as direct perception of one's true nature.

I think Platform Sutra has a mixture of Prajnaparamita Sutra and Shurangama Sutra even though Hui-neng did not study Shurangama as far as I know. If Prajnaparamita Sutras are considered the second turning, Shurangama Sutra is like the third turning sutra.
Prajnaparamita Sutra emphasis is on emptiness. Shurangama is on the union of luminosity and emptiness. The brilliant luminous clarity of mind and the non-duality of mind and appearances. Lankavatara sutra also falls under the third turning category. Platform Sutra talks about both luminosity and emptiness, so it is a third turning sutra.
oh i see your point of putting it this way. the stanza from Hui Neng does refer to luminosity as compare to emptiness.
i also think the word 般若 Prajna have a wider meaning of acme wisdom of Dharma.
般若波羅蜜 prajñÄ-pÄramitÄ, The acme of wisdom, enabling one to reach the other shore, i.e. wisdom for salvation; the highest of the six paramitas, the virtue of wisdom as the notes a knowledge of the illusory character of everything earthly, and destroys error, ignorance, prejudice, and heresy.
if so it should include all kind of acme wisdom. 开智的楞严.
Platform sutra anyway also mean in full:- å—å®—é “æ•™æœ€ä¸Šå¤§ä¹˜æ‘©è¨¶èˆ¬è‹¥æ³¢ç¾…èœœç¶“å…ç¥–æƒ èƒ½å¤§å¸«æ–¼éŸ¶å·žå¤§æ¢µå¯ºæ–½æ³•å£‡ç¶“.
btw i read that Master Hsuan Hua compare Shurangama equally important as Lotus sutra. He use 5 periods 五時教 instead. The fourth period is the prajna period.
http://www.cttbusa.org/shurangama3/shurangama3_12.asp
The Shurangama Sutra is for the opening of wisdom. The Shurangama Sutra points out the path, the way of cultivation.
anyway to me 佛的法 开智的楞严 往生的弥陀 玻执的金刚 入界的严 解空的般若 are all eventually the same.
