Buddhists cannot eat beef.
burning of incense papers is a buddhist rites and custom.
Cannot use carambola(starfruit) as offering to Guan Yin.
medium possessed by guan yin as such.
I think the greatest myth is many people think being a Buddhist is to have a good reincarnation in human realm in next life. Very few non Buddhists know that the main purpose of being a Buddhist is not to be reincarnated. Many were surprised when I told them being a Buddhist is not to be reincarnated
i think of one which is ...
Monks are invited to recite sutra and do ritual for the dead and funeral.
our old Master Chin Kung, for once, had refuse to do this when young. He was taught to follow what the original Shakaymuni Buddha did, which is to teach all His life. 50++ years is do nothing but teach Dharma.

To me,
I think many people regard 4-faced buddha as one of the buddha...
Actually he is Brahma, a Hindu God, God of Creator. He is one of the trio with Lord Vishnu and Shiva... but many people just regard him as buddha.
I don't understand... I told my friend he is a hindu god. My friend half believe half skeptic.
some people perception is that buddhist and taoism are the same.
some even perceived that Buddha is a god.
some even think that journey to the west is true, that the Buddha subdued monkey god with his palm.

Yeah yeah yeah, many people thought it is a Buddhist story. I told them the story of the monk going to the west is true but minus the monkey god, the piggy and the other disciple. I told them the monk traveled alone to India. They got interested in Buddhism after hearing and ask me to tell them more about Buddhism. They were unable to accept Buddhism because of the story which sounds so unreal (monkey god, piggy and the other disciple).
Many non Buddhists thought Buddhism is only philosophy. In fact, it is more than a religion and more than philosophy or education. True Buddhists will feel the presence of Buddhas when they are in need of help and Buddhists are saved by both works and Buddha's grace.
