Well, I admire Mdm Choo for her kind heart however most Buddhist temple do not advocate releasing animal into the Singapore Resevoir. As the act may upset the ecosystem hence please consider the available option. Kindly refer to Buddhist Fellowship and National Parks Board advocation.

Be kind to animals, do not release them into the wild

As Vesak Day approaches, the National Parks Board (NParks) and PUB, the national water agency, would like to remind the public not to release animals into nature reserves and reservoirs.
Such acts may have adverse effects on the ecological balance in our nature reserves and parks, as well as the water quality of our reservoirs.
Ms Sharon Chan, Assistant Director at NParks, explains, "Most people do not realise that releasing animals means sending them to their deaths. One recent incident I encountered was the release of a few soft-shell terrapins. They were not equipped to survive in the wild, and died on that very day. Should these animals harbour viruses, they will contaminate the water and affect other native wildlife. We want to appeal to everyone to refrain from releasing your pets or animals into the wild."
Mr Chan Chow Teing, PUB's Senior Deputy Director of Catchment and Waterways, adds, "As the fishes and animals may not be able to survive on their own, releasing them not only affects the ecosystem but also the reservoirs' water quality. Although treating the water for drinking water supply is not an issue, it is important to keep the waters clean for aesthetic and recreational reasons, so that everyone can continue to enjoy activities at our reservoirs and parks."
Ms Angie Monksfield, President of Buddhist Fellowship, further clarifies the link between Buddhism and kindness towards animals, "Being kind to animals is one of the core practices in Buddhism. However, freeing animals into the wild, especially those that have been bred in captivity, is not necessarily a kind act as these animals would be easy prey for predators. In some cases, they end up disrupting the ecosystem, thus affecting native animals in their habitat and in turn being cruel to the existing animals in the wild. Buying trapped animals to free them will also encourage the trade, causing more animals to be trapped. Instead, kindness towards animals can be achieved by reducing or eradicating the consumption of all kinds of meat, adopting and caring for animals from shelters, helping injured animals and preserving their natural habitats."
To remind the public not to release animals, members of Buddhist Fellowship, school students and volunteers from all walks of life will be distributing brochures and putting up posters at various locations, including MacRitchie Reservoir Park, Lower and Upper Peirce Reservoir from 9 - 10 and 16 - 17 May. A list of the participating organisations and schools is in Annex A.
In addition, the students of Raffles Girls will be designing educational posters and putting them up at MacRitchie Reservoir Park's bandstand. When asked why the RGS students are taking part, Deborah Tang from class 312 elaborates, "When we were applying for projects earlier this year, all of us decided that we wanted to do something meaningful. We discovered that many were unaware of the adverse impacts of releasing animals into the wild. Since Singapore is a small state, the biodiversity we have here is precious and must be conserved; hence, we want to make a difference!"

arent people who release the animals as guilty as those buying animal products.

Mdm Choo had saved the frogs from being slaughtered, dying a horrible death with hearts ripped out and de-skined LIVE !!! i believe the frogs were grateful because even if they could not survive out in the WILD as you anti-animal release people will say, i am very sure they are at least happy dying naturally, than to be killed in such horrific manners.

also for your information, the birds that i released into the " WILD " as you people like to exaggerate 10 years ago still sing at my front.
They are tiny little birds that many of you will say can't survive out there by themselves.

sorry. maybe i should clarify.
if the frogs were bought from 煮炒 stores and save from being food for us then i agree its a good thing.
but i disagree with those bought at temples and released.
the temples actually bought the animals for people to release. so its only 象��。
