I have friends who are not Buddhists yet. They are curious to know what is 3 steps 1 bow. Friends who have not seen 3 steps 1 bow, may watch the video clip below.
Many Buddhists will participate in 3 steps 1 bow during Vesak Day celebrations. The main purpose of 3 steps 1 bow is to lighten our sins.

Errrrm....... no idea. I think there's a reason why 3 steps 1 bow and not 3 bows 1 step. You are really a naughty boy who asks naughty question but I guess it's a logical question.
If you are truly sorry for your sins, and vow not to repeat it again. Reciting Buddha's name or 3 steps 1 bow with utmost sincereity will help.
If you want to lighten your sin so that you can commit sin without being punished, or would want to commit somemore, it wouldn't help.

Fcukpap was just joking. No sin for jokes like this. Buddhism can be light hearted and no need to be so serious all the time. See 慧律法师,his talks are mostly light hearted.
Yes, you are correct. One must repent sincerely and never repeat it again or it will not help.

care to enlighten?
It is stated in the Ksitgarbha Sutra that anyone who recites his name 1000 times a day for 1000 days will not go hungry (丰衣足食)。It does not mean one will strike Toto or 4D but will not have difficulties in earning a living. I have friends who recite his name less than 1000 times and in less than 1000 days experience what is being said in the Sutra. She was supposed to be out of job soon but miracles happened to her.
However, Buddha did not encourage Buddhists to spread Buddhism through mircales but that does not mean there're no miracles in Buddhism.

if thats the case wont ppl be treating buddha as wish granters?

imo, yes and no.
Is highly base on your motivation. eg. you you chant with pure aim for personal gains or even selfish gains, highly i believe your wish wont materialse.
But if you chant with motivation, to have a stable life (i say stable, never say rich) to ptractice the dharma and to help others towards your dharma aim.. I then would belive it will materialise...

Yes, "newbie" is correct. Without a stable life, one will not be able to concentrate on practicing. Instead, he/she will be worrying about living expenses and worldly problems. In Buddhism, we always practice 慧修。Why (fortune) comes before 慧(wisdom)? I can't remember who said it but I was told it is because one needs to have a stable life inorder to concentrate on practicing.
Stable life does not mean to be rich but need not worry much about living expenses. Whether one is super rich or poor depends on one's karma. We were taught how to 慧修。

oic... sorry but i got more questions i hope you guys wont mind me asking.
I was always under the impression that buddhism is also about freeing ourselves from desires. But in this case, if chantng with motivation and practicing dharma equates to a possibility of materialising the wish, wont it be easy for ppl to be mislead into chanting/practicing to actually fulfill their "desire" because they know if they chant with motivation and practice dharma thy would have their wishes materialise?
im actually very interested in he philsophies of buddhism... can anyone introduce me something easy to understand for me to read up?

I think Ksitigarbha bodhisattva is not related to Vesak Day. Ksitigarbha bodhisattva is related to the ghost month and his birthday always fall on the last day of the ghost month.
It will lighten your bad karmic debts - 大事化å°å°äº‹åŒ–æ— . Alternatively, You may want to read this book called 地è—è©è¨æœ¬æ„¿ç», which may take 1-2 hours each day. Whatever your wishes, they will come true.

We are humans after all. We need money to survive and desire a smooth, healthy and happy life.
You can check free courses at Buddhist Fellowship by Angie Monksfield or Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery. They will give you a good idea on Buddhism.

These are the correct words to say everytime after you lian jin. Sometimes we do not know who we have offended in this life and previous life. When your creditors (unseen beings) heard this, they may forgive you and let go of their hatred with you.

first i think you misunderstand me. granting stable life s to practice the dharma. In buddhism wealth have many meaning and does not equate to only money, does not means fullfilling your desire, many misunderstand this about buddhsim.
And frankly chanting begiiner stage, there will be purfication stage and many will say it really may worsen your condition but that rather complex to explain simply. so maybe you have some basic understanding about compassion in dharma view, then the rest will understand easier

In buddhism there is no ghost month actually
