I'm afraid I can't answer your questions... but yes it is very good to make sure you do the right thing.
E.g. seawater fish cannot survive in non-seawater places, and vice versa. If you put them in the wrong place they will suffer more instead...
It really depends on what kind of fishes you want to release. Do your research first.
btw i participated in releasing fishes into the outer sea before. until now my conscience is good. so depend on how you feel about it. if u do not feel good or you have many opinion about it, then don't do it! as it will affect your mind, or your conscience. then no use already.
Buddhism is about the mind. when i see crabs at the cook stall, i also recite mantra to them, i feel good too. i also released my pet turtle into east coast park pond long long time ago, there's no feeling of guilt too.

i think releasing animals might damage the ecosystem... why not practise a bit of vegetarian instead... indirectly saving lives too

I suppose if you release them in a proper place, it won't cause damage. Problem is many people put them in mistaken places and that cause harm and suffering to the animals and others.

Hmm... I'm not sure how you question relates to the TS's question. I think whether your conscience is good or not, the least we should do is to make sure they are released in an environment in which they can survive well and not get torturted instead... putting fish in a wrong place is like putting a man in outer space without oxygen... can't survive up there, much suffering.
wow, you all so kind hearted... way to go!
as for me, i eat plants alot because i hate plants, i want eat until no plants left!

this of course is a priority, but i mean then if one still worry if they can survive or not after releasing, then rather don't release. the mind don't feel at ease, then no point doing.
then of course if one is so foolish until release in wrong place, yet feel good or with good intention, also got its subsequent karma. karma is related to intention.

I like to ask if I were to free some fishes that I buy from seafood resturant, where is the best water areas in Singapore that I can release these fishes? Can these fishes survive in sea areas such as East Coast? And how about those fishes like small gold fishes or guppies that can be purchased from pet stall? I like to uphold this practice freeing animals but I like to understand the conditions which they live in before doing that.
Thank you!
Pease For all,
Most of the fishes that you buy from seafood restuarant are from fish farms . They are not from the the sea - at fish farm they are use to air pumps and other things . Thus they are not suitable to be release back into any sea - most likely they will die a more slow painful death than you eat them in the restaurants.
same as goldfish - they are form farms - they are use to air pumps and other stuff and cleaner water , release into the wild - they will also die a more slow painful death .
You think buying them to eat it is your need for food - it is to feed hungry people.
But you go buy them to release, it is to just to make you feel good ? - they die a more slow horrible dead - add more sin !!!
It depends. Make sure you know the fish you're getting. Certain live seafood is obtained from the sea using cyanide fishing abroad, e.g. wrasses. The local waters are very different and they may not survive.
If you decide to release freshwater fish into the reservoirs, they will compete with the indigenous species for food and kill them off, as the former have no natural predators here and will breed in large numbers.
like watching The Matrix and Truman Show. they both prefer to be free than be trapped/caged in confinement, even though the outer world is not so good.
try putting yourself in their shoes. imagine u are caged when birth, would u rather stay the whole life in the cage or prefer to be release from the caged to see the outside world.

If you want to free animals, free them responsibly. Do not harm other animals and the ecosystem. Imagine being in the shoes of your own children, in the moment when they learn that people like you introduced alien species that killed off the local endangered wildlife.
you can ask and do some search online before freeing animals / fishes. since in your initial post you had not indicated why you have to free animals, i guess if its to make you feel better, well there's many other thigns you can do to make you and otehrs feel better.
if you are not a full time vegetarian, maybe on the 15th you can join groups to eat vegetraian food for a change? just a suggestion.

or on the other hand/contrary, we could also be populating the now depleting species. (over fishing is another world problem).
free them responsibly is the priority as i mentioned already. beings all wish to be free is another issue.

how did that species get in your hands in the first place?
if people really want to "release" anything, please do so with absolute knowledge.. because some moron in the US did this and unleashed the Snakehead on their ecosystem...
another lot did something like that too and the waterways are now infested with the Asian Carp and the Silver Carp which has basically wiped out the native species over there..
and here in Singapore, the local species of Malayan Box Turtle is almost extinct because people with no sense of responsibility released craploads of red-eared sliders (or what are called "terrapins") into the drains here which out-competed the crap out of the local gentler turtles...
please do the right thing.. it may seem like it's a "good thing" but the road to hell is paved with good intentions

Agree.
Please note that many local species are already in danger of extinction from foreign species.
Another is the disease that are in the release species can exterminate an entire local population.
Please think twice before doing such a calamity on the fragile local ecology.

not refering to endanger species btw.

the Silver Carp and the Asian Carp are not endangered species..
neither is the Snakehead fish, the Red-eared Slider nor the Cane Toad...
but each of these species resulted in ecological disasters when released into places where they weren't supposed to be found in...

ok, i was refering to overfishing...or ways to repopulate the now depleting fishes.

to put it; it's due to overpopulation of one species.

it applies to our overpoplation also!
release the worng krakens into the wrong sea the reminder gets eat - extinct!
