Helping a stage 4 cancer patient

  Hi Dharma brothers and sisters,

   

  This is an urgent case. 

  I have a close relative who are diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in liver.

  Have asked her to chant Medicine master Buddhas name and recite Dabei zhou.

  Besides this, what other things can she do to help her accumulate more merit to overcome this obstacle ?

  Please advice.

  Hi,

   

  Already went thru the Sabah snake grass treatment.

  That was when the cancer still in stage 3. But looks like it does not work.

  I am thinking of using nianfo and liaofan method to help her.

  Which is to help her accumulate as much merit as possible while she nianfo.

  1) Please advice what are the activities deem suitable for her to accumulate merit.

  2) I read about alms offering to monk, anybody knows about such activities and how should it be done ?

  Pls advice.

  Support the sangha (donate to monks/nuns like you said), dharma printing, charities, etc. Donating to sangha results in "immeasurable, incalculable" merits according to Buddha in the http://www.palicanon.org/en/sutta-pitaka/transcribed-suttas/majjhima-nikaya/109-mn-142-dakkhivibhanga-sutta-the-exposition-of-offerings.html
  
  This will help her accumulate merits. I believe you can donate to any sangha because all sanghas depend on lay people's donation.
  
  The Buddha said the same thing:

  Thnks for the reply.

  Just want to know the procedure.

  1) How do I go about donating to monks ? Just give Angpow ? Or buy food, robes.....etc ?

  Sorry, where to get all these stuff. 

  2) And how to seek audiences with the sangha members ?

  3) I intend to offer to Phor Khar See temple. Fo Guang Shan, any other temples in Singapore whereby there are monks/nuns I can offer the alms to ? Since this is urgent case, I intend to do the best for her, even by visiting every temple.

  1) Can be both.
  
  2) It is best you just walk up to any of the monks/nuns in the temple and talk with them about your situation. Then you can ask them how they would prefer to receive the donation. (e.g. in food, robes etc)
  
  3) Both KMSKPS and FGS should have sangha, if you want to find out more can call them first or visit them personally. http://www.kmspks.org/ and http://www.fgs.sg/cn/default.aspx

  There are many... wherever there are sanghas, donations and alms would be appreciated.

  By the way has your relative taken refuge in the Triple Gems? If she has not you might want to check with a sangha if they hold a taking refuge service. This itself is meritorious and important for creating a connection with the triple gems.

  Hi, hope you find additional helpful info from below link: http://www.fpmt.org/death.html When my mum got sick (not from cancer), I thot her life span could be coming to an end. When she finally passed away, a relative arranged for a Rinpoche to do phowa for her. We also do other things like sponsor pujas for her, donate to earthquake victims using her money on her behalf, enter her name for those pujas to benefit the dead etc. The impt thing is to make sure she is comfortable physically, help her to be peaceful, good also to chant Amitabha Buddha's name if she can do it. Also, if she is at the end of her lifespan, tell her to let go and not cling to this life. After death, the first 49 days are important, especially the first 3 weeks. Ask her loved ones to send loving thots to her, sponsor pujas to be done for her and dedicate merits for her good rebirth/rebirth in Amitabha Buddha's pureland. It doesn't stop after the 49 days. The merits of any virtuous deed done can still be dedicated to her good rebirth, her name can still be entered for pujas to benefit the dead etc.

  maybe if you are a non-sectarian.. maybe you would like to consider tibetant method.

  Request for a divination to be done to see what need to be done...

  If the divination is good or no good. The lama (monk) will give you specific advise on what to be done for merit or obstacle clearing....

  Thanks for all the advices.

  There are many advices on praying and chanting - recite Amituofo, Dabei Zhou, Medicine Buddha, Di Zang Wang Pu Sa, etc....

  I wish I can gather and have a meeting with all the Buddha and Pusa to determine which one to chant at this moment.

  She will do the following immediate actions currently:

  1) Fangsheng

  2) Donation / alms to temple

  3) Sutra printing

  4) Control her diet

  There was a Tibetan Puja on 26 Jan. morning about healing. I attended. The person in charge announced that there was a patient who had late stage lung cancer was cured 2 weeks after he/she attended last year's puja. However, I guess this also depends on individual's karma. 

  May be you can seek Tibetan Rinpoche for help as their healing method is much faster. If not, can advise her to recite Da Bei Zhou, at least 10 times a day. I understand that by reciting it can heal illness. Anyway, it all depend on her/his 因缘。

  to tibetant, cancer maybe cause by some harrasment or karmic debtor related.

  It can be cause bu spirits, naga etc...

  so most of the time, the prayer instructed  maybe of wrathful type. But what prayer to prescripe mostly will be advise after a divination is done..

  I not promising a miracle.. but some eg i heard, a terminal patient was told by doc only 3 months... but after that last i heard 3 yrs later still around.

  Another eg is my mum, stage 2, after some practices done... she recover and went back to work looking heathier then before...

  Another eg.. not cancer an old relative was admitted for heart problem... doc not optimistic... but after some divination and practices done.. 4 yrs later still going strong.

   

  But of course dont rely on miracles, all medical still need to do... but some times spiritual help is great... but a point to note, as a monk once taught me... we do not always dedicate to recover, dont die etc.... the main issue to end suffering.. sometimes with minimal suffering which is actually letting the person goes....

   

  For recovering from illness, one of the common recommendation is animal liberation.. but sometine divination wll recommend specific animal eg crabs at specific numbers...

  as earlier i state still recommend divination if non-sectarian

  There is a good puja i think is next month by drophenling at their centre.. is a combination of heart sutra, white umbrella goddess and lion-face dakini in one puja with substitute.. I think would be great for this.....and for obstacles clearing

  Hi all,

  She has decided to chant and take up medicine master buddha's name.

  And proceed with doing merit in life liberation and other merit making activities.

  Also, currently she is doing natural organic healing and detoxification, recommendation from Kampung Senang.

  Let's hope for the best.

  You may also google sodium bicarbonate and potassium citrate supplementation for alkalising diets. Maybe methlylene blue too!

  Also the amino acid methionine which feeds cancers cells. Reducing methionine may starve cancers cells. There was a programme on bbc some years ago on total dietary supplement for cancer patients. You may want to google that.

  For liver, eat more beet root, it can detoxify the body.
  I just heard of this method, putting 3 葫芦 gourd next to her pillow, it is said that è‘«èŠ¦ can help to absorb the illness and negative energy, emotions etc during sleep.
  Can also try reiki treatment.
  
  Yes, I agree that you should ask for divination, that may give you additional info on the cause of the cancer. It is always more effective to tackle a problem at the root cause.

  I wish your relative to be well and happy.

  Recently a friend of mine introduce me to Zen master Jing Puti (金è�©æ��）(Meditation of Greater Illumination).  You can find it on youtube and follow the simple exercise.  After doing this exercise for about 10 days, I find that I am physically and mentally stronger.  Please encourge your relative to follow Master Jing Puti step by step action which is very easy to follow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qx_HObVTjUk。

   After doing this exercise, she can continue to chant Medicine Buddha along with the zen master.
