I think the only way to handle bad and painful memories is to deal with them. If we cannot deal with the memories, that's why they are painful. It is just our undue emphasis on a past emotion and the fact that we are holding on to that emotion is causing the unnecessary distress.
There are many ways to go about this and one of them is to engage in spiritual practices like the vipassana meditation or recitations of mantras and contemplation of our death. You see, when we die, whatever it is that use to bother us, will no longer bother us any more. I wonder what this Lama is going to teach in this course. Perhaps, he might be teaching a little on mindtraining or the basic concepts of it so it is readapted to help the practitioner.
