Over the past years a group of buddhist internet contributors have been working on a niche project that rivals the Microsoft Windows operating system, known as Bodhi Linux. Bodhi Linux was and remains as a NFP i.e. Not-for-profit, like Windows 10, Bodhilinux 3.1.0 newly released this month is also free of charge.
Now as changing an operating system - especially from Windows or iOS to Linux is barely a joke - even though it is free it can be troublesome. Yet, because modern buddhists can be very adament about environmentalism, sometimes more insistent on recycling and going green than the very sutras themselves, Bodhi Linux can be very interesting because if you want to salvage old i386, i585 or even i686 hardware - I give you an example Firefly Mission in Singapore goes into many regional missions, sometimes they either donate new computers or refurbish these machines. The poorer kids in these places find meaning in computers as well, especially when electricity and internet can be very limited.
As I type my machine runs on Bodhi Linux:
If you are keen on evaluating the operating system on your old machine, and know what a LiveCD and an ISO image is, get it here http://www.bodhilinux.com :)
