Korea's largest Buddhist sect will allow retirees to join the Buddhist
priesthood.
Head of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism Venerable Jaseung on
Wednesday revealed the plan to revamp its law and enable people over the
age of 50 to become monks.
During the New Year’s news conference, Venerable Jaseung explained
that the revision will allow people who wish to devote their lives to Buddhism
after retirement to become monks.
Under the current law on Buddhism’s religious order, people aged 50 or under
can become monks.
Venerable Jaseung also said the Jogye Order will actively seek to resolve
labor-related problems faced by the youth.
