u should. but now it's different from last time. Last time one r tied with string, now is use a kiap kiap to kiap. When it drop out, just keep in a airtight container(mama use those small small container for skincare) sprinkle some baby powder will do. Now the in-thing is to keep the cord blood for emergency. My sister keep one for her daughter...not cheap also....... Anyway next time, my turn will have to keep one for use. -

actually cord blood when needed can be from anybody, not really must be your own...
now there is a new public cord blood center liao, besides the 2 private cord blood banks. It is public so can be reached out to the main public. the cord blood stored there will be donated free by mothers. However, they will not have any say towards these blood.
Veri ex for the cost, besides 1 time payment, there is also the monthly(or was it yearly??) maintenance cost. -

It is something like insurance. U pay $$ every month. if nothing happens how? those years of payment goes down the drains.

Makes sense to store cord blood. The two private companies now offer very competitive pricing. When you factor in the total cost of having a baby, it isn't much. The initial fee is about 1K these days, and the yearly fee for storage is $250. Public bank yah, but it's on a first come first use basis.
Last year ST carried the news that this kid with leukemia had like zero chance of survival. Then they used his sister's cord blood to save him. He's now in kindergarten or something. The banking company mentioned in the articles is CordLife. -
