Almost drove into a cyclist on the road this early morning(6am+).
the stretch of road(main) today have decided to "lights off" for the 2nd time in last couple of month for unknown reason & it was dark.
I filter from my home side road onto the main road, watching out for oncoming veh on the main road, It was dark & i can't see much, or maybe still not totally awake yet. i rely on lights from the oncoming car beam to see whether there is oncoming traffic or not.
As i step on the gas to filter out to the main road, a flash of motion zoom across my screen. I was shocked and jam on the brake. I realised that it is 1 of those labour worker cyclist just zoomed pass me with a few of his friends convoy some distance behind.
I could have knock down the cyclist without knowing what had happened!!!!
It didn't occur to me that the road apart from car and motorcyclist, there are also cyclist.
I remember we had a night cycle a few months back, i remember to bring a blinking bike taillights for safety purpose. But i didnt recall i have to bring a front torch light as well.
We have many friends that are runners and cyclist. I myself have tried to be conscious of my driving on the road with knowledge of how runners and cyclist behave on the road. Still accident, careless or whatever you call it might cause accidents.
I dread to think those drivers that are not familiar with the knowledge how to approach runner/cyclist on the road or those runner/cyclist that do not know how to take care of themselves on the road or even know the mentality of the drivers on the road.
Accidents are still going to happen unless we address the missing link.
