Reunion Dinner 2005

What will your family be having for Reunion Dinner this year? Do you hold it at home or at a restaurant? Which foodstuff would your family traditionally have for this event?
My family has been going over to my paternal grandparents' home for a steamboat dinner. Mom and Dad would get fresh stuff from the wet market for the steamboat dinner. Dad would then go over earlier to make his nice stock and get everything prepared first. Then he'd drive over to pick us up for our Reunion Dinner!!!
I am soooooo looking forward to it this year! It's been fun every year! My Ah Ma can be quite cute one and when we're together, we whisper and gossip and giggle like schoolgirls! hehehe!

My family will be going to a restaurant for our Reunion dinner this year My cousin will be back from Atlanta, & she'll be joining us, really looking forward to catching up with her & the rest of my family (brother & his family) again I think we're gonna have some traditional hokkien cuisine this year!

me and my bf will go to a colleague's house for dinner this year!!! This colleague of mine is going to be my neighbour soon---or rather i am going to be her neighbour since i am moving over...
She and her family are very friendly and they invited us to join them....so sweet of them....

We already had our reunion dinner 2 weeks ago at this Teochew Resturant down town, due to the fact that hardly anyone will be in Singapore for CNY.
Pretty fun really, especially when my dad and my uncle are the 2 biggest jokers in the family. You can just imagine -
early steamboat dinner at home with my dad, stepmom and brothers.... then later dinner AGAIN at my auntie's house with all my cousins and their kids..... steamboat boat boat boat....... yummy.

Actually, how come no one thought of having BBQ? Or other unconventional stuff? Would be more fun than the staid, customary stuff!

I'm not going home this year..... cos I quarreled with my mum........ cos she wants me to get married and I had to bring a man back home to let her see!!!! crazy and crappy...............so no reunion dinner....will cook for myself and the cats and wallow at home

Well, my family will be having our reunion dinner a weekend earlier and then, I'll be all alone during the holiday itself. I'm still determined to have a good time though. Chin up, carebear... it'll all pass...
Oddly enough, you know what, I no longer dread being alone! I've got a new bunch of friends I love dearly now. They're a huge blessing to me! And right now, I'd rather be single than unhappily hitched with someone incompatible. Haven't met anyone I fancy THAT much to give up my freedom, personal space, and everything else for too!
Freedom and personal space... huge, huge thing with me!
But I digress... back to the subject matter, I hope you'll resolve differences with your mom on time to return for reunion dinner. She's only thinking of your best interests in the only way she knows how. Her generation didn't exactly have too many options for women. -
We are having it at my grandmother's house and it will be the usual - ayam buah keluak, hir pio soup, chap chye...

my friend's parents book a table at Paramount Hotel for reunion dinner...wa xia...$400plus...siao one...too rich liao...me as usual...stay home eat steamboat...
anyone feel tat eat at home is better than outside? as in more close? cosy? -

The reunion dinner is held at my house, dad being the eldest son. My grandma and all the relatives come to feast
The standard dishes are (not exhaustive):
- steamboat (usually with humongous fishballs, dunno where they buy it from)
- steamed fish
- prawn
- roast chicken and duck
- leek . very important dish. called "sng3" in teochew, means save $$$. eat more, save more.
- ngor hiong, my favourite
Following that, I be waitress for the 3-4 days/nights when we host -
