I managed to find a reasonably-priced little hotel in Little Korea in NYC and just a short walk away was the Empire States Building!! Central Park could be seen and it was astounding to see a huge patch of green interrupting the seemingly endless expanse of skyscrapers!
Older, more established cities have their beauty. Older skyscrapers, like the Empire States Bldg and the Chrysler Bldg, are magnificent architectural works of beauty!
They're nothing like the pre-fab buildings that crop up overnight like mushrooms and assorted fungi these days. 
And oh, seen the handsome building near Bugis with the architectural details? There are statues at the top of the imposing building too! It truly is an awesome building! I hope they do not erect any tall buildings anywhere surrounding it to block it! -

Yes, your profession is so mobile, you can go anywhere. Even TO is in need of you........come, come,........ Houston may be nice, warmer ley. If I retire, I hope I can afford the typical Canadian snowbird lifestyle. They used to spend six months in Florida and then back in Cdn for the next six. But I think the shift is now to Arizona. If I don't do the half and half thing, my next best thing is Vancouver.
And hey, I got a "lau shi" for gardening. I got books on it, bought them real cheap during one of those sidewalk sales but know what? "Liak boh kiu" so just buy the hardy ones. Same with my indoor plants. Aloe lah, jade lah, goldfish....even got brown fingers, they still alive one.

Better than me, I bought those hardy ferns that look like glamourous weeds, one of those idiot-proof plants that supposedly won't die, y'know... then I got over-zealous with wanting to nurture it that I got a bit too heavy-handed with the fertilizer and yipers... death by toxic chemical overdose!

You can have my gardening books. No need discount. I really didn't use them. But if I send my air postage, then defeat the low cost of the books. I'll safekeep. If I know of anyone visiting Sg, I'll have them hand-carry. How's that? Failing which, I may visit next year. Hopefully, you are still in the country then we can catch up. And then really failing failing which, travel plans not concrete, I'll mail it to you. Okay? -

Life in Minnesota is, by and large, enjoyable. The locals, who are mostly of Norwegian and Scandanavian descent, are friendly and accommodating, especially out in the suburbs and surrounding countryside. For a midwestern city, the cost of living is surprisingly high. Residential property prices have gone through the roof in recent years, and property taxes are among the highest in the nation. State income taxes are also very high.
Weather-wise, Minnesota is about as varied as they come. Winters here are legendary for their variations in snowfall and temperature. Some winters can be surprisingly mild with little snowfall, while others make the news worldwide. I was here during the famous "Halloween Snowstorm" of October 30/31, 1991, when 40" of snow fell in a 48-hour period. I was living in a ground floor apartment at the time, and I couldn't open the sliding patio door because of a 6-foot high snowdrift on the other side.
Some winters can also be brutally cold. We've had still-air temperatures as low as -25 degrees *Farenheit*, with wind chills that have plummeted to -40. Human skin doesn't react very well to those kinds of temperatures and will freeze if exposed for as little as a minute.
Summers here are absolutely gorgeous, though, and make enduring the occasional harsh winter worthwhile. Minnesota is a very verdant state, with lots of parks and lakes. Minnesota's state motto is "The Land of 10,000 Lakes," so there's no shortage of opportunities for boating and fishing.

Y'know, it's quite a unique perspective. Usually, folks would photograph the Singapore River from the Westin Stamford so this is unique in a sense.Originally posted by deathscythe99:Thanks

LazerLordz, Kopiosatu, I wish I had met you guys before HDB upgraded my grandma's estate, where I grew up in. I would have loved the places I knew so well to be immortalised in photos! Would have loved to go on some sorta photo-taking excursion around that neighbourhood!
Too bad everything's spanking new now and none of the old was retained.
