I just hope that the interior decor shown in that flythrough is just a virtual one ... cuz I'd hate to see the library in stark white with plastic chairs and metal furniture.
I hope they're going to use warm, earthy colours and lots of wood - that'll make it look real cozy and inviting!
I saw its new site on this map... it's in-between the City Hall and Bugis MRT Stations. -

Best thing is to go there, have lunch at one of the cafes, hang around in the library reading until about 6pm, then walk over to the Makansutra Gluttons Corner @ the Esplanade and have dinner. -

I was reading the Vision of the new library and found this point interesting :
"In this context, the Library will serve as a centre for research especially on business, science, culture and heritage attracting scholars from all over the world to produce excellent research output. It will support planning and decision-making and inspire the young and old, the generalist and specialist, in the pursuit of their personal and professional aspirations."
Lofty-sounding... but how in the world does it expect to 'attract scholars from all over the world to produce excellent research output'?
And the next sentence is so sublime and grandiose it deserves to be immortalised in a Dilbert cartoon... 'It will support planning and decision-making and inspire the young and old, the generalist and specialist, in the pursuit of their personal and professional aspirations.' -

Recently, I was mulling over a health and fitness issue and started to think about how nice it would be for the public to be able to gain access to professional journals and even, online subscription databases in the public libraries.
Not too sure if the actual volume of usage would justify the costs involved but it sure would be handy! You could do your own thorough research on any issue of concern to you and have up-to-date professional journal articles and research papers at your disposal!
Right now, to enjoy those, you'd have to pay for library membership at educational institutions like polytechnics and universities here.

Yea... professional periodical journals are available from any multimedia stations at any of the public libraries in Singapore. A good one to use is Proquest! It's about $2/hr to access these online databases.
