A library would never end up as a white elephant, unless people stop reading, and that'll be a sad, sad day if it happens!Originally posted by iveco:I wonder if the new National Library will end up as another white elephant. Some folks @ Speaker's Corner seem to think so.![]()
Well, I urge you to read Atobe's post @ Speaker's Corner on the same subject ("$200m library" thread) and see what you think of it.Originally posted by Rhonda:A library would never end up as a white elephant, unless people stop reading, and that'll be a sad, sad day if it happens!![]()

Are we allowed into the garden or the observatory? Or do we need security clearance to go to these places?Originally posted by choco B:I saw the NLB on the news and I particularly like the big open indoor gardens and spaces, and the observatory at the top.
Originally posted by kopiosatu:hahahahah with a celebrity? lol~ i just like that kind of look.

hahahahah hey... idea leh, a change from the usual fort canning... will see how ON the couple are. hahahahahah!Originally posted by choco B:Dream lover come rescue me
Funny, I misread that you were going to take some shots of the wedded couple at the NLB , after ROMI thought - those pictures would turn out quite modernist
After signing, alot of couples proceed to ft canning to take those outdoors shots. Hopefully the weather's good.
I believe this National Library building was set up mainly as a reference point, rather than a borrowing library. Apart from housing collections such as southeast asian collections, reference library etc, there are also offices inside where diff. departments in NLB are (instead of the staff being at various locations such as Millenia Tower, Marine Pde & Geylang lib, etc). So... I think HQ staff are gonna 'reside' there from now on.Originally posted by tare:empty for wat???
why place so big only 1 flr can borrow?
is there any cafe INside the building?

Yeah lor it also says lee kong chien reference library at the entranceOriginally posted by SydneyLibrarian:I believe this National Library building was set up mainly as a reference point, rather than for borrowing library. Here's a floor-by-floor plan of what's in the new National Library building.
