Well, if you get a good vein, even a 20G would do the job well. To illustrate how difficult is 16G, 1 guy in my platoon had to poke 7 times b4 in was successful. He needed his buddy n 3 more volunteers to accomplish tt stressful feat. Si bei jialat. -

We were taught how to do it, first on dummy arms, then on patients. I'm not good at it myself because most of the time, the paperwork and other clinical work makes me so busy that I end up calling the Medical Officers to set the plugs instead.
In the ICU, we aren't even allowed to set I/V Cannulas. Anyways, almost all the patients in the ICU have Intra-Arterial (IA) lines and Central Venous Catheters so our blood-taking and IV meds administration is taken care of. -
