What is wrong with employers nowadays?

i responded to many advertisements for job positions.
my asking salary was $2300 - not shortlisted at all.
i reduced to $2000 - not shortlisted at all.
i reduced to $1600 - i start to get calls for interviews.
at the interviews the interviewers commented that i have a lot of experience and will not have any problems coping. AND THEY EVEN ASKED 'WHY ARE YOU ASKING SO LOW?' i was flabbergasted.
in the end i was not selected for both positions.
SO I DECIDED TO ASK FOR $2K AGAIN.
i went for another interview today. the interviewer asked if i can accept lower. -
if u're really keen in the job let them know you're "negotiable" lor... then wait for them to make an official offer...

But I remembered one post that wrote employers are still taking in even those in their 50s for a 1.5k admin job.
I just think this "asking for" approach sucks!!!
Why can't they just pay according to the market reference??? 
Anyways, dragg, maybe the "one" is not here yet. Keep trying and I am sure patience pays off.

on both occasions they said i am perfect for the job and commented that my asking pay is low, but eventually did not offer me the job.

It really doesn't seem to make sense, does it?

think of it this way... they are probably not perfect employers too... or at least not very professional interviewers (judging from the comments they make to their interviewees)...
get over the rejections you've faced so far... focus on what you can learn from the past and how you can do better the next time round.

Who ask you lower your price? If you think ur worth 2k, then stick with it. Employers dont like it, then let them be. You have the knowledge and experience to offer them at 2k, not less than that right? Its a normal human reaction. For example Im more reluctant to hire an indon maid for $300 with heaps of experience compared to a chinese maid for $700.

dragg.......you know what this cycle of stress reminds me of? The American Idol. We are having our Canadian Idol right now and week and week, I see the faces of the contestants. I feel their stress and pain. I don't have to experience it to imagine what they are going through. So, yes, I know what a pain it is for you to go through all these cycles. But zodi has a very good point. You may not want to work for that type of employers too. Even if you got the job, you may be unhappy there too and may eventually leave. Don't short-change yourself. Persevere. If you know you are good, go for the market rate and like what one suggested, tell them that you are willing to negotiate because you really like to build a career with them.
Stay strong, dragg.......don't lose hope. Come back here and yak with us. We can't solve your problems but at least hopefully we can provide some sort of distractions of your misery.

Have you tried the job agencies? Talk to the bigger ones like GMP, Manpower, Recruit Express, Kelly Services, etc. One advantage of using them is that you don't have to keep on writing cover letters.
It is not easy finding a job these days but jia you! -

they're willing to pay only peanuts (not THAT peanuts) but want the world.. and on the other side of their face, they say they're willing to pay top money for talent...
strange lot...
i guess what they say, is rarely what they want... the doubletalk is probably how the bosses climb so high...
(sorry if i'm such a downer now, coz from my office boss all the way up to the organisation no.2 are made up of such imbeciles)

Yeah, it's the employer's "ai pi ai chee" mentality. Unfortunately it seems that the situation in Singapore is biased towards employers, to the extent that they can get away with saying that only successful applicants will be contacted. That's just plain rude.

dragg....honestly, you wouldn't want to work in that kind of org or at least with that kind of Human Resource. You are not even getting a salary and yet have to subject to that kind of insult??? Can you imagine if you are an employee, bo pian for the salary, got to swallow a lot more. Don't know what kind of crap the HR can come up with too. Like vacation lah, bonus lah, increment lah.....blah, blah.... No, dragg.....you deserve better. Or anyone should deserve better and treated with respect and as a HUMAN BEING!!!
