But of course! Guess why there's a need to enroll hundreds of new students into nursing every year?Originally posted by choco B:Not sure about the technicalities re: sponsorship, but she got admitted into the course pretty easily.
Rhonda, I read your reply to MG re nurses' pay and benefits. Would be it better with a degree qualification? How does degree improve pay and career prospects leh? Thanks in advance.Originally posted by Rhonda:But of course! Guess why there's a need to enroll hundreds of new students into nursing every year?![]()
I've got colleagues who've completed their nursing degree - you just get $100 more a month.Originally posted by Wanda:Rhonda, I read your reply to MG re nurses' pay and benefits. Would be it better with a degree qualification? How does degree improve pay and career prospects leh? Thanks in advance.

Actually, in Nursing here, the degree is less important compared to the Advanced Diploma where you specialise in a clinical specialty. eg. Medical-Surgical Nursing, Gerontological Nursing, Oncological Nursing, Critical Care Nursing, Renal Nursing, etc.Originally posted by sbst275:Just $100 extra then a dip? Aiyo

An Advanced Dip with about 5 years' experience would get you promoted to a Snr Staff Nurse II.
That is, provided you please the higher-up's.![]()

Everywhere in hospitals or even out of hospitals, can be breeding grounds and spreading grounds for viruses and bacteria and what-not.Originally posted by sbst275:ZaoBao forum page got ppl say ICU a germ/ virus spreading area..
How true is this?
There are just such ppl aroundOriginally posted by Rhonda:Everywhere in hospitals or even out of hospitals, can be breeding grounds and spreading grounds for viruses and bacteria and what-not.
In the ICU, a lot of patients are on ventilators, they are weakened and in an immuno-compromised state because of their serious illnesses, which put them there in the first place.Being on the ventilator puts one at risk for Ventilator-Acquired Pneumonia because there are many points of possible infection for the patients.
All said, there are germs and superbugs that originate from hospitals but do not go out into the community because the very ill are more susceptible.
And THAT is why we prohibit children from under 12 to enter the wards and visit the patients!
And yet, when I walk up to parents and try to explain that the hospital is not a good and safe area to bring their babies and toddlers in, they complain to my ward sister that I was 'rude', that I 'tried to prevent them from visiting the sick relatives', etc etc etc. And mind you, I have colleagues as witnesses to attest that I was NOT rude when I approached them!![]()
There are also *ahem... 'a certain group of locals' around who would bring their straw mats and lay them out in the patients' Day Room and have a grand-poobah noisy picnic and kampong fiesta time on weekends when they so-call come to visit the patients.Originally posted by sbst275:There are just such ppl around

And they can get mighty aggressive if you tell them to tone it down or tell them that the Day Room is meant for patients who want to watch TV or read the mags.![]()
